And, as we all know, anything smaller than this (like <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Christ_the_Redeemer_(statue)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">the 38m tall<\/a> Christ the Redeemer statue in Brazil) is shit. Shit and boring.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m sorry, I don\u2019t make the rules, that\u2019s Mr. Bezos\u2019 job.<\/p>\n<p>Taking apart a bridge? \u201cBig deal,\u201d you may scream at your screen \u2014 but you\u2019d be wrong.<\/p>\n<p>Rotterdam\u2019s Koningshaven bridge (known locally as De Hef) was renovated in 2017. At the time, the council <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rijnmond.nl\/nieuws\/1461348\/de-hef-wordt-ontmanteld-voor-megajacht-van-rijkste-man-ter-wereld\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">declared that it wouldn\u2019t be dismantled again<\/a>. But Rotterdam didn\u2019t bet on Bezos swinging into town and telling them that, actually, no, it <em>is<\/em> going to be dismantled again.<\/p>\n<p>The municipality explained to Dutch broadcaster Rijnmond that it considers the building of Bezos\u2019 boat important from an employment and \u201ceconomic perspective.\u201d It\u2019s coming down. For a bit.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, <a href=\"https:\/\/nltimes.nl\/2022\/02\/02\/rotterdam-bridge-taken-apart-let-jeff-bezos-pleasure-yacht\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Bezos will pay for the dismantling and rebuilding<\/a> \u2014 but this is the infrastructural equivalent of making the President suck your toes. I\u2019ve always thought I should be treated differently (i.e. better) than people poorer than me. I don\u2019t want to say that the richest man on the planet Jeff Bezos is superior to everyone else, but in another, more real way, that\u2019s exactly what I\u2019m saying.<\/p>\n<p>If he wants to buy the Mona Lisa and use it for toilet paper, great! The painting\u2019s boring anyway. If Bezos wants to pay two people to fight to the death and then consume the flesh of both combatants and stream it live on Prime, he should go right ahead.<\/p>\n<p>And if Mr. Bezos wants to build a giant mechanized suit and maraud around cities, crushing citizens and buildings alike, then, goddamn, he should.
