Here we go!<\/p>\n<h2>What the hell is a .eth domain?<\/h2>\n<p>In a nutshell, it\u2019s a domain name for your crypto wallet. It works just like it does on the internet (like www.thenextweb.com) and helps you easily find a site. A .eth domain name makes it easier to link to your wallets and apps on web3.<\/p>\n<p>Technically, your wallet address looks something like this: 0xD8046FBC80020b35c7d90B4Cb2C04FfA7446AE25.<\/p>\n<p>This string has 42 characters, so there\u2019s no way in hell you\u2019re going to remember it. So if a friend asks you for your wallet address, it\u2019s easier to send them \u201cblah.eth,\u201d rather than this long string.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, if you get even one character in the string wrong, you might end up sending cryptocurrency to someone else \u2014 and there might be no way to recover those coins.<\/p>\n<h2>How can you get one?<\/h2>\n<p>The Ethereum Name Service (ENS) is the best way to get hold of one. Here\u2019s how you can do it:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Go to the ENS domain claim website.<\/li>\n<li>You\u2019ll be asked to connect your cryptocurrency wallet, such as MetaMask. If you don\u2019t have one, you can read <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/what-is-metamask-create-account-web3-nft-crypto\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">our guide on how to do it<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Once your wallet is connected, type in the name you want. Don\u2019t worry, you can easily change it.<\/li>\n<li>Once you\u2019ve checked how much you\u2019ll be charged in total, you can hit the <em>Request to register<\/em> button.
