I\u2019ll allow this tweet to explain:&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"9.7013888888889\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Change your horn sound to \ud83d\udc10, \ud83d\udc0d\ud83c\udfb7, \ud83d\udca8 or holiday jingles with latest Tesla software update!<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Elon Musk (@elonmusk) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1342574459882852352?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">December 25, 2020<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>Because, hell, who in their right minds would want their car to make a boring ol\u2019 horn sound? That\u2019s totally pass\u00e9. Especially if your vehicle can sound like a goat, a lion, or a FART. Or, indeed, any other type of audio you\u2019d like.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The thing is, EV horn honks serve a more important purpose than the occasional flex or joke that Boombox enables.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Let\u2019s keep in mind that electric vehicles are quiet, for which reason they\u2019re required to <\/span><span>e<\/span><span>mit some sort of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalregister.gov\/documents\/2018\/02\/26\/2018-03721\/federal-motor-vehicle-safety-standard-no-141-minimum-sound-requirements-for-hybrid-and-electric\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">sound at low speeds<\/a> so pedestrians can hear them<\/span><span>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to the NHTSA\u2019s filing, the Boombox function \u201cmay obscure the Pedestrian Warning System (PWS) sounds.\u201d And, potentially, distract pedestrians as well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Let\u2019s be honest: a goat bleat would d<span>efinitely muddle an EV\u2019s warning noise<\/span>. And yes, if I heard a loud fart while crossing a street, I\u2019m more likely to stop and find where it\u2019s coming from instead of getting the fuck out of the way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>And, as federal regulations prohibit manufacturers from \u201caltering or modifying the sound-emitting capability of the Pedestrian Warning System,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/topic\/tesla\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tesla<\/a> has once again succumbed to the NHTSA\u2019s demands.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As a result, the EV maker will have to recall the feature in 578,607 Teslas through an over-the-air update.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Genuinely? I\u2019m bummed. Now I\u2019ll never know the joy of walking down a street filled with Teslas making farmyard sounds.
