Warren Buffett\u2019s flagship investment house Berkshire Hathaway could\u2019ve sold up to $5 billion<\/a> worth of Apple stock last quarter, reports Business Insider.<\/p>\n

Citing SEC docs filed on Monday<\/a>, BI calculated Berkshire held roughly 964.5 million Apple shares on September 30, worth nearly $112 billion dollars.<\/p>\n

But Berkshire disclosed $91.5 billion in Apple stock on June 30, and, after taking Apple\u2018s closing share price into account (as well as a 4-to-1 stock split), BI reckons this meant Berkshire owned 1.003 billion<\/em> individual Apple shares at the end of 2020\u2019s second quarter.<\/p>\n

This implies Buffett sold roughly 39 million Apple shares last quarter, which represents 3.8% of Berkshire\u2019s position in the iPhone maker.<\/p>\n

Depending on when Berkshire sold, the back-of-the-napkin math prices Buffett\u2018s latest Apple dump anywhere from $3.5 billion to $5.2 billion.<\/p>\n

The thing is, according to BI, Berkshire invested around $35 billion in Apple between 2016 and 2018, which means Buffett has more than tripled his money since (at least on this one stock).<\/p>\n

Buffett\u2019s Berkshire Hathaway is finally staging a comeback<\/h2>\n

By far Berkshire\u2019s biggest holding, Apple has featured dominantly in its stock portfolio over the past half-decade, making up as much as 40%<\/a> of Berkshire\u2019s total stock portfolio in July 2020.<\/p>\n

With this in mind, Berkshire\u2019s decision to offload some of its Apple stock mightn\u2019t come as a surprise. Apple\u2018s share price is up nearly 60% year-to-date, having set record highs this year. Taking some<\/em> profits simply won\u2019t hurt, especially if you\u2019re Buffett.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, Berkshire has struggled to stay in the green throughout COVID; Berkshire stock is still down 1% for the year while the S&P 500 index, the widely considered benchmark for the US stock market, is up nearly 10%.<\/p>\n

Berkshire\u2019s share price does appear to be staging a comeback, though, having rallied 10% already in September. Mostly, it seems the Omaha Oracle\u2019s penchant for \u2018old world\u2019 bank stocks<\/a> like Bank of America and Wells Fargo is paying off yet again in light of Pfizer\u2019s recent COVID vaccine tease<\/a>.<\/p>\n
