Why, you ask? Because <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/heres-why-they-dont-make-manual-stick-shift-evs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">EVs simply don\u2019t need more than a single gear<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>I know, a stick shift car feels empowering, so why haven\u2019t automakers thought <span>about a \u201cbest-of-both-words\u201d solution and put one in an EV?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Oh wait, they have. Then, the controller is configured to control the shift reaction force output by the shift reaction force generator according to the operation of the pseudo-shifter using the stored shift reaction force characteristic.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>Okay, I\u2019m no engineer but here\u2019s what I understand:&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><span>There\u2019s an <\/span><span>EV mechanism that can switch between \u201ccontrol modes\u201d of standard automatic and manual driving.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><span>This mechanism uses \u201cpseudo-clutch\u201d and \u201cpseudo-shifter\u201d inputs to adjust the torque produced by the electric motor.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span>But given that the prefix \u201cpseudo-\u201d is used so much, I\u2019m led to believe that this controller is more a symbolic function, than a performance-based one. In other words, it\u2019s all about the nostalgia of manual gear-shifting.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As much as I find it unlikely for a company to invest money on basically useless tech, I get it. Dressing the new with the familiarity of the old is a proven marketing technique.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Let\u2019s not forget that Ford created <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/ford-finds-most-what-the-fuck-strategy-market-evs-perfume-petrol-scent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a petrol-scented perfume<\/a> for those who wanna go electric, but miss the ol\u2019 scent of gasoline too much.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Under this light, Toyota\u2019s EV gear stick patent actually makes sense.<\/span><\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/all-evs-have-automatic-transmission-toyota-begs-to-differ\">Source<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is something you might not know: almost all EVs are automatic.&nbsp; You\u2019ll be hard pressed to find one with a gear stick.
