- CoinGecko<\/a>, another price tracker, lists 12,563 cryptocurrencies.<\/li>\n
- TokenSniffer<\/a>, a hack coin scanning website, has historically detected 1,210,508 tokens (it scans different blockchains to \u2018sniff\u2019 out all new tokens) \u2014 out of which more than 82,000 basically a scam.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
How do these trackers even keep track of cryptocurrencies?<\/h2>\n
The folks at CoinGecko told me there are more than 500,000 crypto tokens out there. But most of them are out of circulation, or simply spam. So they don\u2019t need to list them.<\/p>\n
CoinGecko\u2019s product, called GeckoTerminal<\/a>, scans different blockchains and exchanges to make sure all coins and their prices are up-to-date. Plus, all listings are manually vetted, so there are no scam coins listed on the site.<\/p>\n
