This means that the electronics and cells can be changed easily. This also removes the risk of damage to the cells. This allows for an increase in battery longevity. It also reduces its carbon footprint by as much as 70%.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Their repairs take in less than ten minutes at a cost of \u20ac5-10 ($5.60 -$11.20). Their modular design makes it easy to disassemble and repair batteries with minor defects and get the batteries back into its vehicles.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As the company asserts:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"9\">\n<p><span>As a result, we can extend the lifetime of our batteries and significantly reduce the number of [them] we have to find second-life applications for, as they keep being looped back into our own operations.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>It\u2019s terrific to see companies making further steps towards sustainability. However, there needs to be more pressure for repairable batteries becoming a reality on the regulatory side.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>The electric battery movement needs a regulatory push to ensure battery repairs are a priority<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span>While issues around battery repair, refurbishment, and recycling are currently <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/RegData\/etudes\/BRIE\/2021\/689337\/EPRS_BRI(2021)689337_EN.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><span>up for debate<\/span><\/a><span> in the European Parliament, it\u2019s unclear whether ebikes and escooters will be included in the final sustainability requirements.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/repair.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/RTR_Final-Report-2021.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><span>Research conducted<\/span><\/a><span> by the International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics (IIIEE) the European Environmental Bureau (EEB), and the Right to Repair campaign late last year found that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifixit.com\/News\/32343\/apple-is-locking-batteries-to-iphones-now\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><span>software locks<\/span><\/a><span> hinder battery refurbishment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>They discovered that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/whats-in-store-for-ebikes-in-2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span>ebikes<\/span><\/a><span> designed and manufactured by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/bosch-brings-ebike-personalisation-through-smart-hardware-and-ota-updates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span>Bosch<\/span><\/a><span>, Yamaha, and Specialised are examples of brands that use software locks.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Furthermore, while battery cells have a standard format (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/commonsensehome.com\/18650-battery\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><span>18650<\/span><\/a><span> being the most popular), the battery packs and management systems are tailored to manufacturers and sometimes to specific bike models, creating barriers to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/apple-will-let-your-repair-your-own-darn-iphone\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span>repair and replacement<\/span><\/a><span>.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>EU legislation would help solve this issue. If ebike makers and manufacturers had to abide by regulations regarding the right to repair, refurbishment, and responsible recycling, this would advance true electric battery <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/circular-design-car-parts-get-a-second-life-as-an-air-purifier\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span>sustainability<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>A rechargeable future is possible and inevitable \u2014 but there\u2019s still a lot to do to ensure that the impact can represent the growth of ebikes and escooters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/repairable-batteries-are-critical-to-the-ev-and-ebike-circular-economy\">Source<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Battery-powered vehicles are the future.
