And a 418km-range battery instead of the original 500km-range one.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>If they accept this, consumers can keep their existing reservations, with R1T\u2019s base price remaining at $67,500 \u2014 and R1S\u2019s at $70,000. But they\u2019ll have to wait <\/span><i><span>a couple more<\/span><\/i><span> years, as deliveries of the new dual-motor vehicles will begin all the way in 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Unsurprisingly, these changes have enraged Rivian\u2019s existing customers \u2014 and rightfully so.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Here are just a few opinions of reservation holders, highlighting how they feel they\u2019ve been \u201cscammed,\u201d and that Rivian\u2019s move has broken their trust and loyalty, proving them wrong for supporting an emerging startup:&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"9.9809523809524\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">So, my <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Rivian?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">@Rivian<\/a> pre-order jumped in price by ~$18k. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RJScaringe?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">@RJScaringe<\/a> I get that costs change but this is ridiculous. Pre-order customers have been scammed. It\u2019s the fact that Rivian is showing so little respect to the consumers who have supported it from the very beginning.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>To change the predetermined price of a product, for which consumers were loyally waiting, is unacceptable. And to soothe the burn by offering a lesser version of the product for the same price? Insulting. Insulting as all hell.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>I\u2019m not arguing that inflation hasn\u2019t affected the automotive industry \u2014 on the contrary, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/new-car-prices-inflation-shortages-semiconductor-chips-2022-1?international=true&amp;r=US&amp;IR=T\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">the average cost of a new car has surged<\/a> in the past two years. Nor am I saying that manufacturers won\u2019t need to increase their vehicle prices to adapt. But no company wishing to establish itself should let any changes impact pre-existing orders.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Anything Rivian has achieved here is short term. <\/span>In the long run, it has damaged consumer loyalty and trust in its brand \u2014 which will take years to heal, if it ever does.
