The back-patting social media posts? It explains:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"7\">\n<p><span>Employers, if you tweet about International Women\u2018s Day, I\u2019ll retweet your gender pay gap.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>That\u2019s right: it uses a bot to name and shame. Excellent.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>It\u2019s a mighty, powerful fuck you to corporations and their carefully curated social media posts, and I like it. I haven\u2019t been at TNW for long, but I\u2019m pleased to work for a company where pay rates are the same regardless of gender.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This is achieved by having a salary house assign a wage level (or two) to a role based on experience and qualifications, meaning each person gets paid the same amount for that role.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The company hasn\u2019t always been blameless when it comes to speaker representation or remuneration. However, TNW is currently working to ensure that half of our conference speakers are female or gender diverse.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>I\u2019ve <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dzone.com\/articles\/can-the-diversity-problem-in-tech-conferences-be-s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><span>written<\/span><\/a><span> about the lack of <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/topic\/diversity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">gender diversity<\/a> at tech conferences before. Many of us are familiar with attending events where we feel unwelcome, such as through the use of marketing gimmicks like \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/dear-computex-please-ban-booth-babes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span>booth babes<\/span><\/a><span>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Yes, this is still a thing, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/athena-talks\/why-are-booth-babes-still-a-thing-at-some-tech-events-97145abb24fe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><span>even in Berlin<\/span><\/a><span>, a city where International Women\u2019s Day is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/berlin-declares-international-womens-day-a-public-holiday\/a-47215264\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><span>a public holiday<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>So please take a closer look at all the companies blasting out about their great female employees today.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Ask yourself, how many <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/europes-diversity-gap-only-solved-with-data\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">women are in management<\/a>? How many are board members? Do they foster an inclusive workplace culture? What practices do they have to deal with workplace sexual harassment, bullying, and discrimination? Do they provide maternity and paternity leave?&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re privileged to work in tech, the wealthiest industry of all, but there\u2019s still a lot of work to do.
