The Tesla Model 3 was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.focus2move.com\/germany-best-selling-cars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Germany\u2019s 7th biggest seller<\/a> in 2021, a jump of a massive 48 positions compared to the previous year.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll be really curious to how fast brands can respond to the competitive demands for renewable energy and especially battery innovation, an area where Tesla has really excelled, especially if you include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tesla.com\/powerwall\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">the Powerwall<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>&nbsp;A real shot as financial prosperity for East Germany<\/h2>\n<p>One of the biggest wins for Germany is the Gigafactory\u2019s location in the East. <span>Grunheide is actually about 54km (33 miles) from Berlin or about an hour and 110 minutes by train.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span> East<\/span> Germany still struggles with social, cultural, and economic Right-wing parties like the <span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/afd-what-you-need-to-know-about-germanys-far-right-party\/a-37208199\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Alternative f\u00fcr Deutschland<\/a> (AFD)<\/span> succeed in the once-Communist East.<\/p>\n<p>As the new Tesla factory will bring more expat-skilled migrants to the area, I expect we\u2019ll see some racial conflicts play out between established local blue-collar workers and the incoming expat-skilled migrants. Cigarette smoking is something else. While smoking makes you a pariah in much of the US, it\u2019s very much the norm in Germany, especially East Germany.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&nbsp;I remember being shocked when I first moved to East Germany to find that restaurants had a smoking section separated by a door from the rest of the dining room.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Even bars turn a blind eye, putting ashtrays out with the beer mats.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">I remember interviewing a local startup with American founders making IIoT software. I asked how they got leverage into German factories, which can be resistant to change. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">They\u2019d rock up at 7 AM and smoke with the workers on their morning tea break (they literally took up smoking for this purpose). Fire up, Elon!&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">A weg beer&nbsp;<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Drinking in public is standard in Germany. I do it myself. Even better, kids can start drinking beer and wine at the age of 15. Tesla man shared:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"10.846368715084\">\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">There is a huge divide at <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/musk-and-his-mom-go-anti-biden-twitter-rampage-for-ignoring-tesla\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tesla<\/a> between production employees and non-production staff. Overtime is minimized for production employees because it quickly drives up the cost. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">For non-production employees, they are typically on a fixed salary. Victoria pointed out that Tesla is bringing in assembly-line workers from Eastern Europe, specifically Hungary and Poland.
