{"id":10698,"date":"2022-03-24T17:11:57","date_gmt":"2022-03-24T17:11:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/TheNextWeb=1383190"},"modified":"2022-03-24T17:11:57","modified_gmt":"2022-03-24T17:11:57","slug":"toyota-and-aurora-start-testing-their-robotaxi-fleet-in-texas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.londonchiropracter.com\/?p=10698","title":{"rendered":"Toyota and Aurora start testing their robotaxi fleet in Texas"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img-cdn.tnwcdn.com\/image\/shift?filter_last=1&amp;fit=1280%2C640&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fcdn0.tnwcdn.com%2Fwp-content%2Fblogs.dir%2F1%2Ffiles%2F2022%2F03%2FUntitled-design-68-1.jpg&amp;signature=da521ef5f3299c7ba5f1657297e1b7d6\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>Toyota and <a href=\"https:\/\/aurora.tech\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Aurora Innovation<\/a>, a US developer of self-driving systems, just started testing <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/topic\/autonomous-vehicles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">autonomous robotaxis<\/a> in Texas.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What you need to know:<\/strong> The test fleet consists of custom-made Toyota Sienna vehicles, retrofitted with Aurora\u2019s self-driving system, the Aurora Driver.<\/p>\n<p>The hybrid electric vehicles are built on Toyota\u2019s specially designed \u201cSienna Autono-MaaS\u201d (S-AM) platform, can go up to 96km\/h, and rely on Aurora\u2019s proprietary <a href=\"https:\/\/aurora.tech\/blog\/aurora-debuts-firstlight-lidar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">FirstLight LiDAR<\/a> for safe driving at highway speeds.<\/p>\n<p>Aurora\u2019s testing the fleet on highways and suburban streets in the Dallas-Fort-Worth area, with the operation including trips en route to an airport.<\/p>\n<p>The rides are taking place with two safety operators on board \u2014 one behind the wheel to supervise Aurora Driver\u2019s behavior, and one in the passenger seat to monitor and take notes for the engineering team.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.businesswire.com\/news\/home\/20220323005390\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">According to the company<\/a>, the Aurora Drive already shows promising results: it can handle Texas U-turns, high-speed merges, and lane changes. Additionally, it can detect obstacles, and it\u2019s able to react to stop-and-go traffic and inclement weather.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s the takeaway?: <\/strong>Considering that the testing comes <a href=\"https:\/\/aurora.tech\/blog\/unveiling-the-toyota-sienna-powered-by-the-aurora\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">six months after Aurora and Toyota unveiled the prototype Siennas<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/aurora.tech\/blog\/unveiling-the-toyota-sienna-powered-by-the-aurora\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">a year after their partnership was announced<\/a>, Aurora is progressing fast.
