Its design language is rather aggressive with a cab-forward stance, long wheelbase, and short overhangs. Its front also looks like an angry reptile of sorts. And while it can\u2019t really compare with the Evija, this new <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/topic\/evs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">EV<\/a> does come across as a high-performance SUV worthy of the Lotus badge.<\/p>\n<p>Built on a dedicated electric architecture platform, the Eletre comes with two electric motors enabling four-wheel drive. There will be three versions available \u2014 the <em>least<\/em> powerful delivering 600 horsepower.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"post-image post-mediaBleed aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" at 260km\/h.<\/p>\n<p>Powered by a 100kW battery, the Electre\u2019s good for an impressive 600km (373 miles) range on a single charge.<\/p>\n<h3>\u201cBreathing\u201d air<\/h3>\n<p>To enable this performance the design team has focused on reducing weight and improving aerodynamics.<\/p>\n<p>The body panels are all made from aluminum, while the black components are finished in carbon \u201cbreathing\u201d function.<\/p>\n<p>Much like the Evija, the vents in the Eletre\u2019s hood, lower grille, front fenders, D-pillar, and outer edges of the taillights serve as channels where air can pass through.<\/p>\n<p>Lotus calls this \u201cporosity.\u201d The benefit? Reducing air resistance and, in turn, improving efficiency and range.<\/p>\n<p>Most notably, the front grille comprises interconnected triangular panels, which stay closed when the car is at rest or when it needs to reduce aerodynamic drag. It alerts occupants to incoming phone calls, changes in cabin temperature, or battery charge status.<\/p>\n<h3>Autonomous potential<\/h3>\n<p>Interestingly, the Eletre comes with deployable LiDAR sensors, emerging from the top of the windscreen, the top of the rear glass, and the front wheel arches.<\/p>\n<p>That way, the vehicle is future-proofed for advances in autonomous driving tech. For reference, the Evija comes costs a hefty $2 million.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m pretty sure that the Eletre won\u2019t come with a such a price tag, but according to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.caranddriver.com\/news\/a39561177\/lotus-eletre-electric-suv-revealed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"> Car and Driver<\/a>, its price is expected to be close to Tesla\u2019s Model X.
