Elon Musk, for instance, wants to take us to a Martian colony. Sure, many will perish on the journey, but the survivors can <\/span>enjoy a nightmarish existence<\/span><\/a>, which they\u2019ll fund through indentured labor on the hellscape.<\/span><\/p>\n

Peter Thiel, meanwhile, will extend children\u2019s lives by giving them blood transfusions. Wait, that\u2019s not quite right \u2014 he actually<\/span> plans to inject himself with children\u2019s blood<\/span><\/a>. The kids will all turn anemic, but at least he\u2019ll live forever. <\/span>(For the record, <\/span>Thiel denies being a vampire<\/span><\/a>.)<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Jeff Bezos, on the other hand, is focusing on repairing the environment. The space botherer has created the modestly-named Bezos Earth Fund, which could reverse a fraction of <\/span>the damage done by Amazon<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

All these big-brain ideas are clearly brilliant, but a new pitch for our survival could surpass them all: Tamagotchi children.<\/span><\/p>\n

For anyone lucky enough to not remember the cursed creatures, Tamagotchis were electronic pets encased in LCD displays that owners tried to keep alive. They were a big deal in the 90s, like <\/span>the Macarena<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>white dog poop<\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n

In a potential harbinger of what\u2019s to come, they typically die quickly. The average lifespan of a well-cared-for Tamagochi is <\/span>a mere 12 days<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

They\u2019ve nonetheless inspired a vision of the future for our species: raising virtual children.<\/span><\/p>\n

Catriona Campbell, a behavioral psychologist and UX expert, describes these digital kids as the fmetaver\u201dTamagotchi generation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re already well on our way to creating the Tamagotchi generation which, for all intents and purposes, will be \u2018real\u2019 to their parents,\u201d Campbell said in extracts of her new book <\/span>shared by the Telegraph<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOn the basis that consumer demand is there, which I think it will be, AI<\/a> children will become widely available for a relatively small monthly fee.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The low cost of virtual kids isn\u2019t their only selling point. Campbell believes the \u201ctechnological game-changer\u201d could also help solve overpopulation.<\/span><\/p>\n

She envisions digital babies with photo-realistic bodies, simulated emotional responses, and AI-powered interactive capabilities. Naturally, they\u2019ll live in \u201cthe metaverse<\/a>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cVirtual children may seem like a giant leap from where we are now,\u201d she wrote, \u201cbut within 50 years, technology will have advanced to such an extent that babies which exist in the metaverse are indistinct from those in the real world.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAs the metaverse evolves, I can see virtual children becoming an accepted and fully embraced part of society in much of the developed world.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

I, for one, feel we should embrace our future virtual kids \u2014 and our virtual grandkids after them. If they disappoint us, we can always hit the reset button.<\/span><\/p>\n
