Over the past<\/span> year, the skyrocketing fuel prices<\/span> across Europe<\/span> have increased consumer interest in alternative sources of energy<\/span>, such as solar power<\/span>. And as demand has been on the rise, 2022 was a good funding<\/span> year for startups<\/span> focusing on providing photovoltaic (PV) technology to residential customers.<\/p>\n

Specifically, European<\/span> startups<\/span> in the sector have raised over \u20ac488 million<\/span> \u2014 and that\u2019s excluding the \u20ac855-million<\/span> debt<\/span> funding<\/span> round attracted by Berlin<\/span>-based unicorn<\/span> Enpal<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Notably, 86.4% of the amount has been injected in German<\/span>-based startups<\/span>, including 1Komma5\u00b0<\/a>, Zolar<\/a>, Sunhero<\/a>, Enpal<\/a>, Einhundert<\/a>, and Sunvigo<\/a>.<\/p>\n

1Komma5\u00b0 has received the highest funding<\/span> throughout the year at \u20ac200 million<\/span>. Founded in 2021, the company<\/span> has secured high-tier<\/span> investors<\/span> such as Porsche<\/span> and is introducing an interesting business<\/span> strategy<\/span>: aggregating individual<\/span> companies<\/span> that offer solar services<\/span> and bundling them together.<\/p>\n

Beyond Germany<\/span>, residential solar tech<\/span> companies<\/span> that have seen an increase in capital are also active in Spain<\/span> (Samara<\/a>), Sweden<\/span> (Sunroof<\/a>), Norway<\/span> (Otovo<\/a>), Estonia<\/span> (Solarstone<\/a>), and the UK<\/span> (Naked Energy<\/a>, Solivus<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Among them, Spain<\/span>-based Samara offers another interesting case.<\/span> Founded in the summer of 2022, the startup<\/span> has managed to raise \u20ac6.4 million<\/span> within six months.<\/p>\n

The company<\/span> uses software<\/span> to develop a comprehensive, customer<\/span>-centered solution, ranging from the installation<\/span> of solar panels to EV chargers. The technology enables users<\/span> to preview solar panel installation<\/span> through a 3D<\/span> model<\/span>, estimate energy<\/span> savings, and calculate their positive environmental impact through a decrease in CO2 emissions<\/span>.<\/p>\n

What all the companies<\/span> have in common is the aim to enable the transition to solar energy<\/span> by focusing on affordability and convenience: from easy installation<\/span> practices and maintenance<\/span> services<\/span> to customizable options and energy<\/span> monitoring tools<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Overall, 2022 has enabled startups<\/a><\/span> in the space<\/span> to attract even more capital, demonstrating their potential to provide better<\/span> services<\/span> to consumers, and in turn, promote further the switch<\/span> to solar power<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n

And as Europe<\/a><\/span> is pushing for the adoption of sustainable<\/span> forms of energy<\/span>, we can expect that solar tech<\/span> startups<\/span> will see higher investment in the coming year.<\/p>\n
