The prospective move would be made to comply with the Biden Administrations\u2019 Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) \u2014 a $369bn package of subsidies and tax incentives, aiming to accelerate domestic production of green technologies, which include semiconductors.<\/p>\n<p>Infineon is amongst the world\u2019s biggest silicon <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/topic\/microchip\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">chip<\/a> suppliers for the automotive industry. It already operates six factories in the US, next to eight in Asia, and five in <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/topic\/europe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Europe<\/a>, where Germany counts three facilities.<\/p>\n<p>Peter Wawer, head of the chipmaker\u2019s green technology division, told the FT that the company\u2019s reviewing the IRA\u2019s requirements associated with the value of goods manufactured in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Waver said that Infineon is satisfied with its current share of value, but that it has to ensure this percentage doesn\u2019t exclude it from business and that it \u201cmight need to transfer a certain amount of product, or certain additional manufacturing, into the US.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Intel\u2019s long-awaited chip plant in Germany <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/germany-intel-chip-plant-semiconductors\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">hangs in the balance<\/a>, after the federal government refused to provide extra state funding for the project.
