Intel has announced plans to build a <\/span>\u20ac4.6bn semiconductor assembly and testing facility in Poland, as the EU looks to ramp up production <\/span>of the chips \u2014 critical components in everything from cars to refrigerators. <\/span><\/p>\n

The site in Wroclaw, western Poland, will employ 2,000 people and is expected to be completed in 2027. <\/span>Design and planning will begin immediately, with construction to commence pending European Commission approval. <\/span> <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

2027 is also when Intel plans to complete its \u20ac17bn <\/span>mega-fab in Magdeburg<\/span><\/a>, Germany. Once operational, both facilities will support the company\u2019s existing manufacturing hub in Ireland.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

While Intel\u2019s factories in Germany and Ireland will produce \u201cwafers,\u201d which serve as the base of a microchip, the new Polish plant will cut those wafers into individual chips and assemble and test them before they\u2019re shipped off to customers.<\/span><\/p>\n
