Arm is<span>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/arm-semiconductor-ipo-september-nvidia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reportedly<\/a> eyeing a valuation of between $60bn (\u20ac55bn) to $70bn (\u20ac64bn).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The lofty target stems from the ubiquity and efficiency of Arm\u2019s semiconductor architectures \u2014 particularly in mobile devices. Arm estimates that more than 99% of the world\u2019s smartphones use Arm-based chips. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In recent years, however, this market has <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb-com.webpkgcache.com\/doc\/-\/s\/thenextweb.com\/news\/risc-v-chips-versus-arm\">shrunk<\/a>, leading Arm to further expand into different markets, such as AI, <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/chip-giant-arm-plans-software-defined-vehicle-future-cars\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">automotive<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/topic\/cloud-computing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cloud<\/a> computing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In the IPO <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/Archives\/edgar\/data\/1973239\/000119312523216983\/d393891df1.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">filing<\/a>, Arm was bullish about the prospects for growth:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe estimate that approximately 70% of the world\u2019s population uses&nbsp;<\/span><span>Arm-based<\/span><span> products, and the scale of Arm\u2019s reach continues to expand, with more than 30 billion <\/span><span>Arm-based<\/span><span> chips reported as shipped in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2023 alone, representing an approximately 70% increase since the fiscal year ended March 31, 2016.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The listing comes a year after the collapse of a $40bn <span>(\u20ac36.7bn)<\/span> takeover of Arm by Nvidia.<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, Nvidia agreed to buy Arm <span>from SoftBank, the Japanese conglomerate that has owned the British company since 2016. <\/span><span>The acquisition<\/span><span> would have been the most expensive ever deal between chip companies, but it was <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/ftc-nvidia-arm-deal-lawsuit-analysis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">terminated<\/a> amid scrutiny from regulators. Softbank chose to pursue the IPO instead.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The filing arrives in a largely dormant IPO market. Tech valuations have <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/startup-genome-2022-was-tough-but-a-recession-is-a-great-time-to-invest-in-tech\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">plummeted<\/a> during the economic downturn, with higher inflation and interest rates spooking potential investors. If successful, the Arm listing could give the market a valuable bounce.
