Nexperia is headquartered in the Netherlands, but the company is a subsidiary of China\u2019s Wingtech. This ownership structure attracted intervention from UK&nbsp;lawmakers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Last year, the British government<\/span> ordered Nexperia to sell the majority of its stake in Newport Wafer Fab. The move was explained as an attempt to \u201cmitigate the risk to national security.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The end result is a new owner for the factory, which makes semiconductors for<span>&nbsp;millions of products, from <\/span>household equipment to <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/topic\/smartphone-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">smartphones<\/a>.
