{"id":14035,"date":"2023-11-28T09:58:58","date_gmt":"2023-11-28T09:58:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/TheNextWeb=1401898"},"modified":"2023-11-28T09:58:58","modified_gmt":"2023-11-28T09:58:58","slug":"tesla-to-get-number-plates-back-in-blow-to-swedish-union-workers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.londonchiropracter.com\/?p=14035","title":{"rendered":"Tesla to get number plates back in blow to Swedish union workers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><span>Tesla sued the Swedish Transport Agency and the country\u2019s postal service yesterday in an attempt to squash the biggest strike the American carmaker has ever faced anywhere in the world.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Just hours after the lawsuits were filed, a court in<\/span><span> Norrk\u00f6ping, where one of Tesla\u2019s service centers is based, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/autos-transportation\/tesla-sues-sweden-over-blocked-license-plates-business-daily-di-reports-2023-11-27\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span>ruled<\/span><\/a><span> in favour of Elon Musk\u2019s car company \u2014 the latest twist in the month-long union action.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>But first, a bit of context.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Postal workers across Sweden are currently refusing to handle Tesla-related mail and deliveries in a show of solidarity with mechanics who are seeking more security in their employment contracts with the EV-maker. In a separate action, the firm sued the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2023-11-27\/tesla-sues-swedish-state-postal-service-after-strike-actions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span>postal service<\/span><\/a><span> to allow it to collect all the plates currently in their possession.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Now, in line with the court order, the Swedish Transport Agency has seven days to allow the automaker to collect the number plates directly or face a fine of of 1 million Swedish crowns ($95,000).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe are pleased that with this decision, Tesla can continue to deliver new cars to our customers,\u201d the automaker said in a statement to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/e86693fa-f09e-4a2e-a335-94cbc2eb4f8b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span>Financial Times<\/span><\/a><span>. <\/span><span>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Elon Musk, Tesla\u2019s chief executive, previously wrote on X, formerly Twitter, that the number plate blockade was \u201cinsane\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The suits signal an escalation in the battle between Tesla and Swedish workers that has ensued for over a month now \u2014 and shows no sign of stopping anytime soon.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>How did we get here?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span>About 130 mechanics at seven Tesla-owned repair shops in Sweden downed tools last month after the automaker refused their request for a collective bargaining agreement. The Nordic country doesn\u2019t have laws that set working conditions such as a minimum wage, so instead workers rely on these bargaining contracts \u2014 which Tesla have consistently refused to grant.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Frustrated, <\/span><span>industrial workers\u2019 union IF Metall<\/span><span> went on strike on October 27, in an action that has quickly escalated. Dockworkers, car dealers, and the postal service have since refused to work with the US brand in a show of solidarity with the mechanics. Workers at a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/europe.autonews.com\/automakers\/teslas-swedish-labor-dispute-threatens-production\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span>Swedish supplier<\/span><\/a><span> of<\/span> <span>critical components for the Tesla Model Y also joined the walkout. The strike action now threatens to spill over into other EU states.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Musk has long been opposed to unionisation, and has so far managed to avoid issuing collective bargaining agreements in all the countries where Tesla operates.
