The bipedal<span> is designed for everyday <\/span><span>domestic tasks, from laundry to tidying.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe once-distant dream of having a versatile, intelligent home assistant is now becoming a reality,\u201d Bernt \u00d8ivind B\u00f8rnich, CEO of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1x.tech\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">1X<\/a>, told TNW.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>B\u00f8rnich co-founded 1X in 2014. He envisions the company producing commercial androids <\/span><b><\/b><span>that benefit society and meet labour demand. The two-wheeler rolled into work for the first time last year. Since joining the labour force, Eve has proven particularly adept at warehouse logistics and guarding.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Neo has broader ambitions. The<\/span><span> general-purpose bot is <span>built<\/span>&nbsp;to fit into our everyday lives as an intelligent assistant.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>To ease that transition, 1X gave Neo various human attributes. It resembles us in form, height (<\/span><span>165 cm), and range of motion. It\u2019s also got dexterous hands, which can lift 75kgs in a deadlift or a squat. This enables machines to acquire skills by interacting with their environment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Customers can also manually move the bot with a VR headset and controllers. Among the investors is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/eqtventures.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span>EQT Ventures<\/span><\/a><span>, a VC firm that\u2019s<\/span><span> previously backed startups including <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/varjo-new-xr-headset-xr-4-virtual-reality\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Varjo<\/a>&nbsp;and <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/einride-brings-futuristic-electric-self-driving-trucks-to-uae\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Einride<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe prospect of androids assimilating into the workforce seems like a distant reality from the sci-fi world,\u201d said Ted Persson, a partner at the firm.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut <span>as we spoke to more and more people, a picture of this actually happening in the next five to seven years emerged. <\/span><span>1X is sprinting towards a reality where robots don\u2019t just exist in movies or assembly lines but walk among us, enhancing our workplaces and lives.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>With an extra $100mn in the wallet, that reality is coming closer. B\u00f8rnich wouldn\u2019t reveal a target launch date, but he expects preorders for Neo to open \u201cwithin a short time period.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>That could put it in a footrace race with another bipedal:&nbsp;<span>Tesla\u2019s Optimus robot.
