{"id":14279,"date":"2024-01-19T12:43:11","date_gmt":"2024-01-19T12:43:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/TheNextWeb=1403172"},"modified":"2024-01-19T12:43:11","modified_gmt":"2024-01-19T12:43:11","slug":"this-digital-twin-of-the-planet-could-rival-google-earth-heres-how-you-can-try-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.londonchiropracter.com\/?p=14279","title":{"rendered":"This \u2018digital twin\u2019 of the planet could rival Google Earth \u2014 here\u2019s how you can try it"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><span>French <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/topic\/startups\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">startup<\/a> Kermap has developed a \u2018digital twin\u2019 of the Earth that claims to offer the most up-to-date views of our home planet.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The programme is called Nimbo Earth Online and it is <\/span><span>the only platform providing new satellite views of the world every month, without clouds. <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/topic\/google\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Google Earth<\/a> refreshes its imagery every several months to years, depending on location.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>AI-powered<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span>Nimbo\u2019s chronological views of the world rely on Sentinel 1 and 2 satellite images supplied by the EU\u2019s Copernicus programme. This is far less precise thanwhat is offered by Google Earth \u2014 so no spying on your neighbours.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>But its creators say the real magic of the tool is that it allows you to see how our planet transforms month-to-month \u2014 pr<\/span><span>oviding unrivalled data for scientists, journalists, environmental professionals or anyone wanting to explore Mother Earth at this time of extreme global change.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Plus the software is open access. After that point you will have to opt for one of their paid plans. However, we\u2019ve used the programme quite a lot already and haven\u2019t been cut off \u2014 yet.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>For us, the biggest downside is that the imagery is only available from 2019, which greatly limits its potential for measuring long-term geographical changes. Hopefully this range will improve as the fledgling company expands its reach.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Kermap\u2019s main customer base are <\/span><span>GIS professionals and land managers based in government departments and in academia.
