{"id":14389,"date":"2024-02-08T16:12:28","date_gmt":"2024-02-08T16:12:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/TheNextWeb=1403730"},"modified":"2024-02-08T16:12:28","modified_gmt":"2024-02-08T16:12:28","slug":"murena-launches-degoogled-smartphone-with-a-kill-switch-for-privacy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.londonchiropracter.com\/?p=14389","title":{"rendered":"Murena launches \u2018deGoogled\u2019 smartphone with a kill switch for privacy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Murena 2, a \u201cdeGoogled\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/topic\/smartphone-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">smartphone<\/a> with a&nbsp;kill switch, has finally launched in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Billed as a privacy-centric disruptor to the<span> Apple-Google mobile duopoly, the device&nbsp;<\/span><span>is the second handset from French startup Murena.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>One new addition to the Murena 2 is a<span> physical <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/topic\/privacy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">privacy<\/a> button, which instantly disables the microphone and camera. To reactivate them for a video call, users just need to flick the switch again.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>On the other side of the handset is another button \u2014 a disconnection switch. Murena built the software to escape the shackles of Google\u2019s&nbsp;operating system.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>On \/e\/OS, every tracker is removed by default. Once inside, users can monitor each app\u2019s permissions, as well as the hidden trackers, which collect their data and follow their activity. They can then cut the tracking.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving physical privacy-on and \u2018do not disturb\u2019 switches on a smartphone is completely unique,\u201d <span>Ga\u00ebl Duval, CEO of Murena and founder of \/e\/OS, said in a statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe device is also a blank canvas in terms of data privacy; there are no default or hidden trackers, and we provide tools and settings that give users more control and visibility over their data privacy. There is no technical expertise required, privacy on the Murena 2 is by design.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>TNW has already tested these claims. Late last year, we tried out a prototype of the Murena 2.<span> During <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/murena-2-review-privacy-smartphone-kill-switch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">our trial<\/a>, the device functioned smoothly and the buttons worked seamlessly. The operating system, however, was more of an acquired taste.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Looking beyond the privacy features, the Murena 2 comes with 8GB of RAM, a 6.43\u2033 display, 128GB of storage capacity, a 2.1GHz octa-core processor, and a 4000mAh battery.
