Among other oddities, this body appeared to be blue, despite giving off no visible light. Careful observations showed the presence of a pair of rings within the body, earning it the moniker of the Blue Ring Nebula.<\/p>\n<p id=\"2b54\" class=\"hv hw fh hx b hy hz ia ib ic id ie if ig ih ii ij ik il im in io ip iq ir is ez cg\" data-selectable-paragraph>Sixteen years of studying this rare object found it to be a ring of<span>&nbsp;<\/span><a class=\"cm jv\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/5JtIyyI5_LQ\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">hydrogen gas<\/a>, surrounding what looks like an ordinary star. However, the properties of this object suggest the star at the center of this object is, itself, the product of the merger of a pair of stars. This discovery of TYC 2597\u2013735-1 could open up a new era of understanding the nature of binary star systems.<\/p>\n<p id=\"0cdd\" class=\"hv hw fh hx b hy hz ia ib ic id ie if ig ih ii ij ik il im in io ip iq ir is ez cg\" data-selectable-paragraph>\u201cWe were in the middle of observing one night, with a new spectrograph that we had recently built, when we received a message from our colleagues about a peculiar object composed of a nebulous gas expanding rapidly away from a central star. How did it form? What are the properties of the central star? We were immediately excited to help solve the mystery!\u201d<span>&nbsp;<\/span><a class=\"cm jv\" href=\"https:\/\/www.princeton.edu\/news\/2020\/11\/18\/mysterious-blue-ring-nebula-scientists-see-fate-binary-stars\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Gu\u00f0mundur Stef\u00e1nsson<\/a><span>&nbsp;<\/span>of Princeton University stated.<\/p>\n<p data-selectable-paragraph><em>[Read:&nbsp;<a class=\"c-link c-message_attachment__title_link\" href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/readme\/2020\/11\/23\/why-this-security-engineer-loves-working-in-infosec\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-qa=\"message_attachment_title_link\"><span dir=\"auto\">Why this security engineer loves working in infosec<\/span><\/a>]<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"55fb\" class=\"jw jx fh au jy jz ka kb kc kd ke kf kg kh ki kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt cg\" data-selectable-paragraph>It takes two to tango<\/h2>\n<p id=\"f528\" class=\"hv hw fh hx b hy hz ia ib ic id ie if ig ih ii ij ik il im in io ip iq ir is ez cg\" data-selectable-paragraph>Unlike our own Sun, most stars in the<span>&nbsp;<\/span><a class=\"cm jv\" href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/the-cosmic-companion\/more-strange-objects-seen-near-black-hole-at-center-of-milky-way-afbbcf460f24?source=friends_link&amp;sk=06921e57891d2da9bf98dc7168b2dacf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Milky Way<\/a><span>&nbsp;<\/span>are found in binary systems, dancing with another star around their common center of gravity.<\/p>\n<p id=\"f615\" class=\"hv hw fh hx b hy hz ia ib ic id ie if ig ih ii ij ik il im in io ip iq ir is ez cg\" data-selectable-paragraph>\u201cStellar mergers are a brief but common phase in the evolution of binary star systems.
