This is to protect the battery cells from overheating. However, it also reduces charging speed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Breathe\u2019s so-called adaptive charging <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/topic\/software\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">software<\/a> offers a workaround. It controls the battery and monitors its health in real-time, allowing devices, including EVs, to charge at full-power when safe. It does this while minimising the risk of damage to the battery cells.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The result is a 15-30% increase in an EV\u2019s charging time, says the <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/topic\/startups\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span id=\"urn:enhancement-ff33932c-e73f-451d-a859-1c2984cc8661\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.thenextweb.com\/tnw\/entity\/application_software\">startup<\/span><\/a>. For the Swedish carmaker, the promise of faster charging without any changes to the battery or vehicle hardware was too tempting to pass up.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe investment and commercial partnership with Breathe helps us address a familiar pain point for electric car customers and makes our charging performance even more competitive,\u201d said Ann-Sofie Ekberg, CEO of the Volvo Cars Tech Fund.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Early this year, Volvo\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.media.volvocars.com\/global\/en-gb\/media\/pressreleases\/317640\/volvo-cars-declares-the-end-of-diesel-at-climate-week-nyc-our-last-diesel-car-will-be-produced-in-ea\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span>last ever<\/span><\/a><span> new diesel car rolled off the production line. While it is still making petrol models for now, the auto manufacturer has committed to selling only EVs from 2030 onwards. To make the shift, Volvo \u2014 like every other carmaker the world over \u2014 knows it needs to invest heavily in boosting range and charging speed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cFast charging is one of the cornerstone enablers for the future we strive towards,\u201d said Dr Ian Campbell, CEO at Breathe. \u201cDeploying our technology at scale on Volvo\u2019s next generation EV platform opens doors to innovative car designs and performance improvements.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Breathe\u2019s tech should be available on new Volvo EVs within the next two to three years.
