{"id":14667,"date":"2024-03-26T14:30:50","date_gmt":"2024-03-26T14:30:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/TheNextWeb=1405103"},"modified":"2024-03-26T14:30:50","modified_gmt":"2024-03-26T14:30:50","slug":"netherlands-devises-e1b-plan-to-keep-asml-in-the-country","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.londonchiropracter.com\/?p=14667","title":{"rendered":"Netherlands devises \u20ac1B plan to keep ASML in the country"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img-cdn.tnwcdn.com\/image\/tnw-blurple?filter_last=1&amp;fit=1280%2C640&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fcdn0.tnwcdn.com%2Fwp-content%2Fblogs.dir%2F1%2Ffiles%2F2024%2F03%2FUntitled-design-41-1.jpg&amp;signature=b346a9a5e039debd7abbd3bff96df0b3\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>The Dutch government is reportedly finalising plans to inject at least <span>\u20ac1bn<\/span> in funding, in an agonised effort to keep ASML in the <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/topic\/netherlands\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Netherlands<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Rumours that the crown jewel of the Dutch <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/topic\/tech\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tech<\/a> ecosystem is considering relocation were unveiled by local newspaper <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraaf.nl\/financieel\/1492170069\/geheime-operatie-kabinet-onder-codenaam-beethoven-om-dreigend-vertrek-asml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">De Telegraaf<\/a> earlier in March.<\/p>\n<p>Citing anonymous sources, the paper said that the government set up a secret taskforce, dubbed \u201cOperation Beethoven,\u201d to alleviate ASML\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/dutch-government-task-force-asml-netherlands\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fears over the business climate<\/a> in the Netherlands.<\/p>\n<p>Now, according to inside information from Dutch news agency <a href=\"https:\/\/nos.nl\/artikel\/2514178-miljardenimpuls-voor-behoud-techbedrijven-regio-eindhoven\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">NOS<\/a>, the taskforce is going to allocate over \u20ac1bn for the development of Eindhoven, where ASML\u2019s offices are located.<\/p>\n<div class=\"inarticle-wrapper channel-cta\">\n<div class=\"ica-text\" readability=\"0\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/conference\/tickets?utm_source=google&amp;utm_medium=display&amp;utm_campaign=global%7Ctnw_media%7Cevent_registration%7Cretargeting%7Clast_chance%7C2024_tnw_conference_amsterdam%7CTNW\" data-event-category=\"Article\" data-event-action=\"In Article Block\" data-event-label=\"TNW Conference 2024, June 20-21 - Hurry, price increase on March 29!\" target=\"_blank\" readability=\"6\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"ica-text__title\">TNW Conference 2024, June 20-21 &#8211; Hurry, price increase on March 29!<\/p>\n<p>Register now to get the best deal and save hundreds on all passes.<\/p>\n<p><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The funding will target infrastructure investments in the region, housing, and an expansion of the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU\/e) \u2014 in particular aiming to support the nurturing of a technically-skilled future workforce.<\/p>\n<p>The government is also considering protecting the 30% ruling scheme (which allows expats moving to the Netherlands for work to keep 30% of their income untaxed) and enabling companies to buy back shares without getting taxed.<\/p>\n<h2>Losing ASML?<\/h2>\n<p>The potential loss of ASML would have a detrimental effect on the Dutch economy. The chip-machine maker is one of the country\u2019s biggest employers and most profitable businesses, reaching a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asml.com\/en\/investors\/annual-report\/2023#:~:text=Despite%20macroeconomic%20and%20geopolitical%20challenges%2C%20ASML%20has%20again%20delivered%20strong,our%20gross%20margin%20to%2051.3%25.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">27.6bn<\/a> turnover in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also Europe\u2019s most valuable tech company with a unique position globally as the sole manufacturer of EUV lithography machines, which can produce the most advanced chips in the world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cASML in the Netherlands is an example of a business that\u2019s successfully claimed a vital role in the semiconductor supply chain,\u201d Mark Lippett, CEO at semiconductor company XMOS, told TNW.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a relatively small country, with a relatively small economy, and yet [ASML] has developed to become an absolute lynchpin company in the global semiconductor community \u2014 proving that small nations can exert a global impact through specialisation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>ASML\u2019s unique position in the global semiconductor supply chain has also placed it right in the middle of an ongoing <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/chip-wars-escalating-between-eu-us-and-china-for-tech-supremacy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">chip war<\/a> between China and the US.<\/p>\n<p>While recent government orders <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/us-china-chip-war-restrictions-asml-exports\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">restricted AMSL from selling<\/a> two of its machines to China, Dutch trade minister Geoffrey van Leeuwen <span>is now expressing what seems to be a shift in perspective<\/span><span>.<\/span> During an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/fd.nl\/politiek\/1511875\/we-zijn-wakker-geworden-rond-investeringsklimaat\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Het Financiele Daagblad<\/a> yesterday, Van Leeuwen said that defending the company\u2019s interests is \u201cnumber one priority.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/netherlands-devises-plan-keep-asml\">Source<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Dutch government is reportedly finalising plans to inject at least \u20ac1bn in funding, in an agonised effort to keep ASML in the Netherlands.
