Eve is an <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/topic\/artificial-intelligence\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AI<\/a>-powered home security system that fires paintballs and tear gas pellets at intruders.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Via computer vision technology \u2014 that also works at night \u2014 the cam can recognise individual faces and even animals. Users can designate guests as friend or foe using an app. (Good luck to the <\/span><span>kid just trying to get his frisbee back!)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Here\u2019s where it gets really interesting. If an unknown intruder appears next to someone known \u2014 perhaps your daughter\u2019s new boyfriend \u2014 Eve asks you to make the call. You have five seconds to leave the property!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>If the adversary doesn\u2019t scarper, Eve blasts them with paintballs or tear gas. As if that wasn\u2019t enough, the camera records every moment and stores the footage in the cloud. So even if they escape the robo-attack \u2014 they\u2019ll probably still get busted.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWhen wanting to ensure safety, being passive falls short,\u201d said Paintcam, the startup behind Eve. \u201cLet\u2019s dare to imagine a world where security is not just a passive observer but an active guardian.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>With the global home security market <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.acumenresearchandconsulting.com\/home-security-system-market#:~:text=The%20market%20size%20of%20home,period%20of%202022%20to%202030.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span>worth<\/span><\/a><span> a whopping $51.9bn (<\/span><span>\u20ac49bn)<\/span><span> in 2021, Paintcam has plenty of potential customers. However, Eve will no doubt raise plenty of ethical concerns. We\u2019re not even sure whether a camera like this is legal.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>But let\u2019s not ruin the fun. For now, we\u2019re going to cut Eve and its creators some slack \u2014 although I\u2019m not sure my daughter\u2019s new boyfriend will be so fortunate.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Paintcam will officially launch Eve 23 April 23. The cost has not been disclosed.
