Plugged<\/span> <\/span>In<\/em> is hot, sticky, and covered in paper. Why? It\u2019s gift guide season, baby.<\/span><\/p>\n

Let\u2019s get something clear: I know I\u2019m publishing this just after Black Friday (and Cyber Monday)<\/span>, but this isn\u2019t <\/span>about<\/em> Black Friday (and Cyber Monday), and that\u2019s because Black Friday (and Cyber Monday) are crimes against humanity.<\/span><\/p>\n

Listen, I\u2019ve got nothing against deals, or people trying to get something for cheap. No, my issue with Black Friday is with the companies themselves<\/span><\/p>\n

(Side note: anyone who posts on social media mocking people who queue up for discounts on Black Friday are pond scum \u2014 those folks are just trying to save some cash. Life\u2019s fucking hard enough as it is without being a dick. How about a long, hard look at yourself before judging anyone else? Knobhead.)<\/em><\/p>\n

Most organizations either use the\u2026 holiday? event? cursed period?\u2026 to get rid of old shit filling up their warehouses, or simply create fake discounts by raising the prices or products in the prior weeks and then lowering them again when it\u2019s actually Black Friday.<\/span><\/p>\n

And because the media sector is cash strapped and struggling to stay afloat, a lot of publications have to play along to some degree. It\u2019s a sad state of affairs.<\/span><\/p>\n

So no, Black Friday isn\u2019t for me. But the things we see around the same time? The gift guides? Those sweet lists of badass stuff? Print them off, wrap me in them, set me aflame, and push me to Valhalla.<\/span><\/p>\n

There\u2019s something deeply satisfying about scrolling through lists rammed with an overflowing abundance of Cool Shit\u2122.<\/p>\n

Whether it\u2019s board games I hadn\u2019t heard of<\/a>, <\/span>inventive music-related gifts<\/a>, or simply <\/span>a gamut of bizarro items for under $50<\/a>, I\u2019ve squandered gallons of precious life force browsing for that next beautiful thing I\u2019m going to splash my cash on.<\/p>\n

And I wouldn\u2019t have it any other way. These lists are, in the main, labors of love \u2014 and it\u2019s why I appreciate them so damn much.<\/p>\n

Of course, the <\/span>reason<\/em> they\u2019re put together is so sites can make affiliate money from them. Despite that, the actual content, the guides themselves, are created by people who genuinely love the things they\u2019re recommending. And, if they\u2019re anything like me, all they want is for you to experience that same joy they get from their picks.<\/p>\n

Personally? There\u2019s little I like more than watching people be enthusiastic about the shit they love \u2014 and that\u2019s the core element of any good gift guide.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m already excited about 2021.<\/p>\n
