{"id":15021,"date":"2024-05-24T13:18:10","date_gmt":"2024-05-24T13:18:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/TheNextWeb=1406953"},"modified":"2024-05-24T13:18:10","modified_gmt":"2024-05-24T13:18:10","slug":"amazon-taps-finlands-iqm-for-its-first-eu-quantum-computing-service","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.londonchiropracter.com\/?p=15021","title":{"rendered":"Amazon taps Finland\u2019s IQM for its first EU quantum computing service"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><span>IQM Garnet, a 20-qubit quantum processing unit (QPU) is now available via Amazon Web Services (AWS) \u2014 the first quantum computer accessible via AWS\u2019 cloud in the European Union.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Finnish <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/topic\/quantum\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">quantum<\/a> hardware startup IQM is based outside of Helsinki, Finland. AWS previously has collaborations in place with <\/span><span>IonQ, Oxford Quantum Circuits, QuEra, and Rigetti for its quantum cloud service known as Braket, but this will <\/span><span>be the first AWS quantum processor hosted within the EU.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This also means that it is the first time Amazon\u2019s quantum services will be accessible to end users in its AWS Europe (Stockholm) Region. Sign up now!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Affordability for quantum algorithm startups<\/h2>\n<p><span>As most of our readers will probably know, today\u2019s \u201cnoisy\u201d and error-prone quantum computers cannot really do all that much \u2014 yet. However, the technology is currently advancing incredibly fast. Learning to work with it will not happen overnight.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As such a whole business model has sprung up around getting organisations and corporations \u201cquantum-ready,\u201d so that they won\u2019t be caught off guard when quantum utility arrives. Today\u2019s smaller qubit systems are also training grounds for software developers, many of whom are working on solving the issue of error correction.&nbsp; <\/span><span><br \/><\/span><span><br \/><\/span><span>\u201cIn the context of cloud, IQM Garnet is mostly used by quantum algorithm engineers to develop IP around quantum compilers, algorithms, and error correction schemes,\u201d Max Haeberlein, Head of Cloud at IQM told TNW. \u201cIQM Garnet offers a highly homogenous layout and has cutting-edge fidelities, allowing users to effectively expand algorithms to the full size of the chip.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>At the same time, Haeberlein said, the company offers IQM Garnet at affordable rates, which is especially important for the growing quantum algorithm startup scene.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>IQM, founded in 2018, is <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/finland-quantum-computing-hardware-ecosystem\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Europe\u2019s leading quantum hardware developer<\/a> in superconducting qubits.
