Six NATO members  are planning to build a \u201cdrone wall\u201d to protect Europe from Russian threats.<\/span><\/p>\n

Finland, Norway, Poland, and the three Baltic states will work together to set up the air defence system. The drones will monitor the thousands of kilometres-long border that separates the nations from Russia. The wall will also include anti-drone systems to neutralise enemy drones<\/a>.   <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a completely new thing \u2014 a drone wall stretching from Norway to Poland,\u201d Agn\u0117 Bilotait\u0117, Lithuania\u2019s Minister of Interior, told the <\/span>Baltic News Service<\/span><\/a>.<\/span>  <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe goal is to use drones and other technologies to protect our borders\u2009.\u2009.\u2009.\u2009against provocations from unfriendly countries and to prevent smuggling.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Russia has been actively provoking its Western neighbours in recent months, including <\/span>passing a bill<\/span><\/a> that would <\/span>see Moscow declaring Finnish and Lithuanian areas of the Baltic sea as Russian.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Finland has also accused Russia of directing <\/span>thousands of migrants<\/span><\/a> from Syria, Somalia, and Iraq towards its territory in an effort to overwhelm border security.    <\/span><\/p>\n

Since Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, EU countries have become increasingly worried that Vladimir Putin will take aim at them too.<\/span><\/p>\n

Poland has <\/span>spent billions<\/span><\/a> reinforcing its border defences with Russia and Belarus, while Estonia is building 600 army bunkers in preparation for a possible future attack. <\/span><\/p>\n

The drone wall announcement follows news last week that Poland has joined the <\/span>European Sky Shield Initiative<\/span><\/a>. The plan, which has 21 signatory states so far, aims to create an Iron Dome-style air defence system covering NATO members across Europe.<\/span><\/p>\n

The war in Ukraine has ushered in a <\/span>new era of aerial conflict<\/span><\/a>, increasingly defined by drone warfare.<\/span><\/p>\n

As drones, big and small, become ubiquitous on the battlefield, it\u2019s no wonder countries are looking to defend themselves against this new enemy in the skies.<\/span><\/p>\n

The drone wall is still in the early stages of development and there is no concrete timeline about its implementation, said Bilotait\u0117. <\/span><\/p>\n
