Military AI<\/a> startup Helsing has raised a whopping \u20ac450mn at a reported valuation<\/a> of \u20ac5bn. The German company said the war chest will fund security for NATO\u2019s Eastern Flank.<\/p>\n

Founded in 2021, Helsing has rapidly grown into one of Europe\u2019s defence tech leaders. It\u2019s now also among the continent\u2019s most valuable AI startups<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This rapid rise has coincided with increasing alarm about Russia\u2019s threat to Europe<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in 2022, defence budgets have soared across the region. Helsing has provided an intriguing target for the funds.<\/p>\n

The company develops AI software for weapons, vehicles, and military strategy. Its tech has been integrated in battlefield simulations, electronic warfare for fighter jets<\/a>, and drones in Ukraine<\/a>. The startup has even entered space, upgrading signal intelligence and anti-jamming in satellites<\/a>.<\/p>\n

With the new funds, Helsing plans to further enhance its AI. The company has pledged to focus on<\/span> protecting European sovereignty \u2014 particularly along NATO\u2019s border with Russia.<\/span><\/p>\n

Helsing\u2019s three founders, Niklas K\u00f6hler, Torsten Reil, and Gundbert Scherf, described the fresh investment as urgent. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cEuropean security is at a crossroads and Helsing will play a significant role in giving democratic societies the ability to deter and defend. But speed is of the essence,\u201d they said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis new funding round allows us to further up the tempo and invest in large-scale R&D and capabilities across all domains.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The Series C raise was led by VC firm General Catalyst. Elad Gil, Accel, Saab, Lightspeed, Plural, and Greenoak also participated.<\/p>\n

Jeannette zu F\u00fcrstenberg, MD and Head of Europe at <\/span>General Catalyst<\/a>, told TNW that Helsing is among her top AI investments in the continent. <\/span><\/p>\n

The startup \u201cis shaping up to become a vertical AI category leader in the defence industry,\u201d she said, \u201cwith world-class AI technology built by European talent.\u201d<\/p>\n
