{"id":15367,"date":"2024-07-23T14:10:19","date_gmt":"2024-07-23T14:10:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/TheNextWeb=1408724"},"modified":"2024-07-23T14:10:19","modified_gmt":"2024-07-23T14:10:19","slug":"uk-startup-unveils-worlds-most-advanced-vertiport-for-air-taxis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.londonchiropracter.com\/?p=15367","title":{"rendered":"UK startup unveils \u2018world\u2019s most advanced\u2019 vertiport for air taxis"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In collaboration with LG, UK startup Urban-Air Port has unveiled the AirOne vertiport, which merges robotics with <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/topic\/ai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AI<\/a> integrated systems \u2014 a world first, according to the company.<\/p>\n<p>Vertiports promise to facilitate advanced urban air mobility, intended for vehicles such as drones and electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.<\/p>\n<p>Urban-Air Port <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/a-uk-vertiport-brings-us-closer-to-evtol-aircraft-in-the-skies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">first demostrated<\/a> AirOne in 2022 in the UK. It leverages the startup\u2019s Vertical Airfield robotics technology, which the company says allows for up to 80% smaller sites, up to 50% reduction in installation costs, as well as a smaller environmental footprint.<\/p>\n<p>The vertiport will also use LG\u2019s data-driven management systems and AI-powered technologies. These can enable a range of services, spanning from biometric check-in and interactive lounges to EV charging hubs and a digital ecosystem for commercial services on site.<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 2019, Urban-Air Port targets four markets: passenger air taxis, cargo logistics, defence, and disaster emergency management and security. The company plans to deliver over 200 vertiports across the globe in the next five years.<\/p>\n<h2>The case for vertiports (and air taxis)<\/h2>\n<p>Vertiport infrastructure is integral to enabling the rollout of air taxis, or (e)VTOLs \u2014 which are appealing for several reasons.<\/p>\n<p>They don\u2019t need runaways to operate and they can navigate small spaces, presenting a potential alternative for urban transport. Electric VTOLs, in particular, can also help reduce carbon emissions in cities.<\/p>\n<p>The UK\u2019s aviation regulator has been <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/uk-studies-vertiports-evtol-flying-taxis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">investigating ways<\/a> to adopt the technology and enable future operations. The EU has also published its own vertiport <a href=\"https:\/\/www.easa.europa.eu\/en\/newsroom-and-events\/press-releases\/easa-issues-worlds-first-design-specifications-vertiports\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">design guidelines.<\/a> Meanwhile, a barge on the Seine will provide a temporary air taxi launch point during the <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/air-taxis-approved-paris-olympics-macron-invited\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paris Olympics<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, challenges such as safety, cost, and VTOL standardisation still persist.
