The police<span> will instead rely on <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/topic\/tech\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tech<\/a> for navigation, control, and detection of other aircraft.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>NPAS has high hopes for the approach. In 2021, the service launched a \u201cFutures and Innovation Team\u201d to explore flights beyond the visual line of sight. But police and crime commissioners have shared big plans for drones.<\/p>\n<p>In November, commissioner Donna Jones <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/news\/uk\/drones-england-wales-national-police-air-service-westminster-b1120546.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">claimed<\/a> that around a third of forces want uncrewed aircraft to replace helicopters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDrones&nbsp;are much quicker,\u201d she said. \u201cThey\u2019re much more agile. The technology now is improving incredibly, and police and crime commissioners have been pushing strongly to the Home Office that drones should be a very viable alternative.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new tests will scrutinise their autonomous capabilities.<\/p>\n<p>A further <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caa.co.uk\/newsroom\/news\/new-trials-set-to-help-unlock-drone-deliveries-and-inspections-in-the-uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">five projects<\/a> will also join the trials. The biggest name among them is Amazon Prime Air, which will explore drone deliveries.<\/p>\n<p>The other trials will explore air traffic control, medical deliveries, offshore wind inspections, and flights from the Scottish archipelago Orkney.<\/p>\n<p>Sophie O\u2019Sullivan, the Civil Aviation Authority\u2019s director of future flight, described the trials as \u201ca significant step\u201d for uncrewed aircraft.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur goal is to make drone operations beyond visual line of sight a safe and everyday reality\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/british-police-join-drone-trials\">Source<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>British police will experiment with uncrewed aircraft as part of new drone trials in the UK.
