{"id":15511,"date":"2024-08-20T11:19:40","date_gmt":"2024-08-20T11:19:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/TheNextWeb=1409481"},"modified":"2024-08-20T11:19:40","modified_gmt":"2024-08-20T11:19:40","slug":"watch-rocket-erupts-during-test-for-uks-first-vertical-launch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.londonchiropracter.com\/?p=15511","title":{"rendered":"Watch: rocket erupts during test for UK\u2019s first vertical launch"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><span>A rocket engine has exploded during tests for a landmark space flight from the UK.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The fire erupted at <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/how-to-build-saxavord-spaceport-spacetech\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SaxaVord Spaceport<\/a>, which aims to host the&nbsp;first vertical launch into orbit from Western Europe.<span>&nbsp;German<\/span>&nbsp;startup Rocket Factory August (RFA) has exclusive access to the spaceport\u2019s first launch pad.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday evening, RFA planned to complete a <span>nine-engine test of its launch vehicle. But disaster soon struck.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>At 22.42 CEST, the company announced that an \u201canomaly\u201d had destroyed the first stage of the RFA ONE rocket. Footage of the incident shows the engine sending a fireball into the night sky.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-media-max-width=\"560\" readability=\"8.2420749279539\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">A longer video from the BBC shows the failure at ignition during the Static Fire test. The company will now investigate the cause of the explosion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur goal is to return to regular operations as soon as possible,\u201d RFA&nbsp;said in <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/rfa_space\/status\/1825634436794245548\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">a statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>SaxaVord has also sought to allay concerns. \u201cAll safety protocols were fully observed and the site evacuated prior to the test, meaning no RFA or SaxaVord personnel were at risk,\u201d the company said.<\/p>\n<p>The spaceport has committed to continue the test campaign.<\/p>\n<h2>SaxaVord\u2019s space plan<\/h2>\n<figure class=\"post-image post-mediaBleed aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1400883 size-full js-lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn0.tnwcdn.com\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/1\/files\/2023\/10\/SaxaVord-Spaceport.jpg\" alt=\"View of SaxaVord Spaceport from the sea\" width=\"1640\" height=\"1228\"><figcaption>View of the spaceport from the sea. Credit: SaxaVord<\/figcaption><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1400883 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn0.tnwcdn.com\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/1\/files\/2023\/10\/SaxaVord-Spaceport.jpg\" alt=\"View of SaxaVord Spaceport from the sea\" width=\"1640\" height=\"1228\"><\/noscript><\/figure>\n<p>Located<span> on the island of Unst \u2014 the northernmost of the inhabited British Isles \u2014 SaxaVord has been repeatedly backed by the UK government.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In 2017, the county\u2019s space agency identified the site as its preferred location for satellite launches.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe site offering the maximum payload mass to orbit is SaxaVord in the Shetlands, from where direct launch is possible to both SSO [sun-synchronous orbits] and polar orbits,\u201d the agency said.<\/p>\n<p>SaxaVord is also the only spaceport in the UK with a vertical launch licence, which was granted <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/saxavord-spaceport-secures-license-space-tech-uk-europe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in December<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The following March, the British government announced a fresh \u00a310mn investment in the site.<\/p>\n<p>SaxaVord says the support will boost the wider spacetech sector.<\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe could hit the moon from our location,\u201d Scott Hammond, the spaceport\u2019s operations director and deputy CEO, <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/how-to-build-saxavord-spaceport-spacetech\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told TNW<\/a> last year.&nbsp;\u201cBut we are really an enabler for everything else.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/watch-rocket-fire-during-saxavord-spaceport-test\">Source<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A rocket engine has exploded during tests for a landmark space flight from the UK.
