Here\u2019s a timely reminder of the benefits that immigrants bring to startups: 39% of Britain\u2019s 100 fastest-growing companies have a foreign-born founder.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s according to new research the Entrepreneurs Network, a think tank based in London. <\/span><\/p>\n

The findings show \u201cthe critical contribution\u201d that international talent makes to the UK, the report\u2019s authors said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Undoubtedly, they have an outsized impact on the country\u2019s startups. Immigrants comprise an estimated 14.8%<\/a> of Britain\u2019s total population, yet they\u2019ve founded over one-third of its fastest-growing businesses.<\/p>\n

The new data echoes prior research from across the world. Studies show<\/a> that most billion-dollar startups in the US were founded by immigrants. Europe\u2019s list of unicorns with a foreign-born founder is also growing.<\/p>\n

Despite these contributions, hostile rhetoric towards immigrants has increased in recent years. Policy changes have created another set of problems for foreign-born talent.<\/p>\n

British universities say international students have been deterred<\/a> from studying in the country, while companies have withdrawn job offers to foreign graduates because of new visa rules<\/a>. Startup founders have also raised concerns<\/a> about restrictions on overseas talent.<\/p>\n

A new founder magnet?<\/h2>\n

The Entrepreneurs Network wants Britain\u2019s new government to ease the barriers to entry. The think tank has the following recommendations:<\/span><\/p>\n
