A Portuguese man by the name of Francisco Roque de Pinho, of course.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Francisco used to be a banker at Rothschild, <\/span><span>the most famous of European banking dynasties. For the past eight years he\u2019s been quietly operating an investment firm funding sustainable cattle grazing in South America. Limited offer.<\/p>\n<p><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>The Land Group focuses on producing \u201cnaturally-reared, carbon-neutral, grass-fed beef\u201d using adaptive grazing techniques. This is where animals are rotated through multiple small paddocks to allow pastures to recover. The Land Group also deploys methods such as cover cropping, crop rotation, agroforestry, and rainwater harvesting.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Tackling the climate impact of farming<\/h2>\n<p><span>The Land Group has already applied its regenerative approach to 40,000 hectares of farmland across eight properties in Uruguay and Paraguay. The firm said its approach has proven to more than double the amount of cattle you can have on one piece of land, while restoring the soil and ecosystem health \u2014 sequestering carbon dioxide.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Francisco believes the Group\u2019s approach offers a \u201ccompelling alternative\u201d in a global cattle ranching industry responsible for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fao.org\/family-farming\/detail\/en\/c\/1634679\/#:~:text=Livestock%20supply%20chains%20account%20for,emissions%20resulting%20from%20rumen%20fermentation.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span>15%<\/span><\/a><span> of the world\u2019s total greenhouse gas emissions.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Francisco first landed on the idea for The Land Group over a decade ago when he met Uruguay native Joaquin Labella, who is responsible for managing and monitoring the project portfolio.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe began our business in 2016, turning around distressed agricultural investments,\u201d said Joaquin. \u201cOne approach we followed was introducing rotational cattle grazing on depleted crop soils \u2014 well before we were familiar with the term \u2018regenerative agriculture\u2019.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cAs we became more proficient, we optimised our approach by implementing increasingly more efficient dynamic grazing systems,\u201d he continued. \u201cIt became clear that regenerative farming was a natural extension of our efforts; we have since fully embraced it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Having now emerged from stealth, the Land Group is setting its sights on scaling up within South America, with plans to invest in farms on other continents starting next year.&nbsp; <\/span><\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/big-wave-surfer-emerges-from-the-barrel-with-120m-fund-for-regenerative-agriculture\">Source<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What do the Rothschilds, big wave surfing, and cows have in common?
