A quarter of European organisations have banned Elon Musk\u2019s generative AI chatbot Grok, according to new research from cybersecurity firm Netskope. <\/span><\/p>\n

In contrast, the most popular AI<\/a> app, ChatGPT, is only blocked by 9.8% of organisations in Europe. The runner-up, Google\u2019s Gemini, is banned by 9.2%.<\/span><\/p>\n

Grok has been under the spotlight recently for a string of blunders. They include spreading <\/span>false claims<\/span><\/a> about a \u201cwhite genocide\u201d in South Africa and raising doubts about <\/span>Holocaust facts<\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Such mishaps have raised concerns about Grok\u2019s security and privacy controls. The report said the chatbot is frequently blocked in favour of \u201cmore <\/span>secure or better-aligned alternatives.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Neil Thacker, Netskope\u2019s global privacy and data protection officer, said the bans underscore a broader trend in how European organisations use popular GenAI tools.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBusinesses are becoming aware that not all apps<\/a> are the same in the way they handle data privacy, ownership of data that is shared with the app, or in how much detail they reveal about the way they train the model with any data that is shared within prompts,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

GenAI is now widely used across Europe, with 91% of organisations integrating cloud-based chatbots into their operations, the report found. Yet not all tools are welcomed equally. <\/span><\/p>\n

Stable Diffusion, UK-based Stability AI\u2019s image generator, is the most blocked AI app in Europe, barred by 41% of organisations. The app was often flagged because of concerns around privacy or licensing issues, the report found.<\/span><\/p>\n

Gianpietro Cutolo, cloud threat researcher at Netskope, said organisations were gaining awareness of the risks around specific AI bots. \u201cThey\u2019re becoming more savvy that not all AI is equal when it comes to data security,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

The growing rejection of Grok comes amid a string of upsets across Musk\u2019s empire, including turmoil at Tesla. The car firm\u2019s sales in Europe have plummeted this year, with a 52% drop year-on-year in the EU last month. <\/span><\/p>\n

Some <\/span>analysts have linked<\/span><\/a> the decline to Musk\u2019s <\/span>role in the Trump administration and his open support of far-right politicians. Now, similar reputational fallout may be catching up with Grok \u2014 which Musk once called the ultimate \u201c<\/span>truth-seeking AI<\/span><\/a>.\u201d  <\/span><\/p>\n
