Qubits, entanglement, superposition, trapped ions, Schr\u00f6dinger\u2019s cat. These terms sound<\/em> strange because the world of quantum mechanics \u2014 where things can exist in multiple states at once \u2014 <\/span>is<\/span><\/i> strange. <\/span><\/p>\n

Thankfully, a group of students from TU Delft are bringing these powerful sub-atomic phenomena to life at TNW Conference<\/span><\/a> <\/span> through an exhibition of abstract artworks.<\/p>\n

Their project, Emergence Delft, blends science and creativity into a mind-bending exploration of quantum reality. A centrepiece of the exhibition is Coexist \u2014 a mesmerising light installation that captures the elusive nature of quantum mechanics through colour, interaction, and design.<\/span><\/p>\n

At its heart, Coexist tackles superposition, the ability of a quantum system to exist in multiple states at once. For instance, a qubit \u2014 the quantum<\/a> version of a classical bit \u2014 can be both 0 and 1 at the same time. But it doesn\u2019t stay that way forever. The moment it\u2019s observed, the qubit collapses into a single, definitive state \u2014 a phenomenon known as the act of measurement.<\/span><\/p>\n

Inside Coexist, a glowing white light \u2014 which contains all visible colours \u2014 symbolises superposition. Around it, oversized polarisation filters are arranged like futuristic portholes. As visitors peer through and rotate these filters, different colours are revealed, depending on how the filters interact with the light waves. Just like in quantum mechanics, the act of looking changes what you perceive.<\/span><\/p>\n

Still don\u2019t get it? Don\u2019t worry, we don\u2019t either. That\u2019s why we\u2019ll be heading to the exhibition on <\/span>the business floor<\/span><\/a> of <\/span>TNW Conference<\/span> on June 19-20 to uncover the quantum mystery. It\u2019s one of many weird and wild activities on the sidelines of the event.<\/span><\/p>\n
