It\u2019s the holiday season, which only means one thing: binge-watching.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As we snuggle up on our trusty ol\u2019 couch and fire up Netflix to drown out the voices of our beloved family, we\u2019re yet again faced with a question that\u2019s plagued us since the dawn of human existence: what the hell should I watch?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Searching for the right content, the perfect piece of wondrous cinema for this exact occasion is a tricky endeavor, no matter how good Netflix\u2019s recommendations have become. Also, the thing about recommendations is that <\/span>we<i><span> know <\/span><\/i><span>they only scratch the surface of Netflix\u2019s vast archives. So we\u2019re always left wondering whether there might be something better to watch \u2018in the back.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Of course, Netflix knows this, so it\u2019s lovingly provided us with a few different options \u2014 such as only browsing through TV shows or movies and searching by titles, genre, and people. You\u2019re always going to have millions of people waste hours trying to search content, starting and stopping movies, until they find just the right one \u2014 which never happens. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>However, I believe you can steer people into making a decision they\u2019re happy with \u2014 without forcing content on them with autoplay \u2014 using the only thing they know for certain about their content needs for the evening: the length.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Most of us sit down with an idea of how long we\u2019re going to spend on the couch that evening (even though it might be a lie) so providing us with the option to search based on that just makes economic sense.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>I can\u2019t tell you how often I\u2019ve seen a movie pop up in my recommendations that I really want to see \u2014 but then grimace at its 2+ hour run-time. \u2018Some later time,\u2019 I tell myself and then look for a more fitting movie for the time I\u2019ve got left. Then suddenly I realize I\u2019ve wasted way too much time on searching and just end up rewatching the same sitcom for the millionth time\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>So, dear Netflix, if you care about us and the spirit of Christmas at all, you\u2019ll give us categories or the option to search for content \u2018under 30 minutes\u2019, \u2018under 1 hour\u2019, and \u2018under 2 hours\u2019 \u2014 and make all of humanity\u2019s dreams come true.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"c-message_kit__gutter\">\n<div class=\"c-message_kit__gutter__right\" data-qa=\"message_content\">\n<div class=\"c-message_kit__blocks c-message_kit__blocks--rich_text\">\n<div class=\"c-message__message_blocks c-message__message_blocks--rich_text\">\n<div class=\"p-block_kit_renderer\" data-qa=\"block-kit-renderer\">\n<div class=\"p-block_kit_renderer__block_wrapper p-block_kit_renderer__block_wrapper--first\" readability=\"6.5\">\n<div class=\"p-rich_text_block\" dir=\"auto\" readability=\"33\">\n<p><i data-stringify-type=\"italic\">P.s. first letters of the first five paragraphs spell out \u2018JASON\u2019.
