{"id":2773,"date":"2021-02-02T18:28:29","date_gmt":"2021-02-02T18:28:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/?p=1337195"},"modified":"2021-02-02T18:28:29","modified_gmt":"2021-02-02T18:28:29","slug":"sony-patents-ai-that-adjusts-gameplay-difficulty-when-youre-struggling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.londonchiropracter.com\/?p=2773","title":{"rendered":"Sony patents AI that adjusts gameplay difficulty when you\u2019re struggling"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img-cdn.tnwcdn.com\/image\/neural?filter_last=1&amp;fit=1280%2C640&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fcdn0.tnwcdn.com%2Fwp-content%2Fblogs.dir%2F1%2Ffiles%2F2021%2F02%2FUntitled-design-2021-02-02T162026.804.png&amp;signature=bac0e4dd0980b58950f666c70ec3ecdb\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>If battles with video game bosses make you throw your controller at the wall, Sony is working on a new AI feature that could make your future foes more beatable.<\/p>\n<p>A new <a href=\"https:\/\/patentscope.wipo.int\/search\/en\/detail.jsf?docId=WO2021015924&amp;tab=PCTDESCRIPTION\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">patent application<\/a> from the Japanese tech titan describes a machine learning system that automatically adjusts difficulty levels when gamers are struggling.<\/p>\n<p>The patent&nbsp;was&nbsp;published last week and first spotted by <a href=\"https:\/\/segmentnext.com\/2021\/02\/02\/sony-patents-difficulty-boss\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">SegmentNext<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It suggests using AI to alter a boss\u2018 moves \u201c<span>based on successful and\/or unsuccessful methods or tactics\u201d previously used by a player:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"13\">\n<p><span>The methods or tactics may include, as examples, particular attacks such as a flying punch, a low kick, etc. Certain attack patterns or sequences may also establish the methods\/tactics, as well as certain player movements and location changes within the level or fighting environment in which the player tends to remain while fighting the boss\/opponent.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The machine learning model would then determine new behaviors for the opponent that make them more or less tricky to defeat.<\/p>\n<p>This might lead the AI to stop the boss from using a weapon that always slaughters you, or give them a shiny new shield if you\u2019re the one doing the killing.<\/p>\n<p>These changes could be based on data from an individual gamer or patterns recognized from multiple players.<\/p>\n<p><em>[Read:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/shift\/2021\/02\/01\/how-much-does-it-cost-to-buy-electric-car\/\"><span>How much does it cost to buy, own, and run an EV?
