Last week, a leak from YouTube channel Tech Buff PH<\/a> showed off Xiaomi\u2019s upcoming Mi 11 Ultra. Other specs aside, the phone\u2019s most intriguing aspect was a second screen on the back.<\/p>\n

This screen should be helpful when you\u2019re taking photos with the rear camera, and might even show notifications.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

That got us thinking: the concept of having a second screen on a phone is not new. In fact, we\u2019ve seen a bunch of brands take a swing at dual-display devices over the years, with varying degrees of success.<\/span> Let\u2019s take a closer look at the form factors that have used a second screen for some purpose, and see if they\u2019ve been of any use.<\/span><\/p>\n

Flip phones<\/h2>\n

That\u2019s right. You might not have thought of these good old stylish flip phones while thinking about a second screen, but plenty of them had one on the shell. We won\u2019t name every single flip phone model that had a second screen, but let\u2019s go back in time to the glory days of the GOAT, the Moto Razr.<\/span>. The old classic sported a tiny screen to show you information like incoming calls, text messages received, and the time. Smart.<\/span><\/p>\n

When Moto resurrected this form factor last year,  it included a 2.7-inch screen on the outside that could also help you take selfies \u2014 and display information as well.<\/span><\/p>\n
