Google built one to <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/neural\/2020\/11\/24\/are-you-a-poet-googles-new-ai-will-help-rewrite-your-shit-prose\/\">help you compose poetry<\/a> that doesn\u2019t look like you shat words on paper, Microsoft built one to <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/artificial-intelligence\/2018\/08\/10\/microsofts-ai-can-convert-images-into-chinese-poetry\/\">convert images into Chinese poetry<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/neural\/2020\/05\/29\/openais-new-text-generator-writes-sad-poems-and-corrects-lousy-grammar\/\">OpenAI\u2019s GPT-3 helped you correct the grammar of your sad prose<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, this new video created by&nbsp;<span>computer artist and animator Glenn Marshall&nbsp;uses AI to narrate and create visualizations for poems. It\u2019s based on the poem \u2018In the Bleak Midwinter\u2019, written by an English 19th-century writer Christina Rossetti.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>[Read: <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/neural\/2021\/02\/15\/this-ai-powered-gadget-could-completely-disrupt-the-ridiculous-hearing-aid-market\/\">This AI-powered gadget could completely disrupt the ridiculous hearing aid market<\/a>]<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The visualizations are striking in a slightly disturbing way. They are not the most sophisticated animations, but rather low-res GIFs. It almost reminds me of&nbsp;<span>band Storm Corrosion\u2019s video for their dark song <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=manW5v-AR7U\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">\u2018Drag Ropes.\u2019<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/05pIId167B8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen>[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Marshall has used <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/lots-of-things\/Story2Hallucination\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">the Story2Hallucination library<\/a> to convert words into the video. It\u2019s interesting to see some parts of the video interpreting words of the poem in a literal sense. For instance, you\u2019ll see a stone emerge from the water to signify \u201cwater like a stone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For narration, the video uses the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/vo.codes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">vo.codes<\/a> tool to borrow Christopher Lee\u2019s voice.<\/p>\n<p>Creating visualizations from text is growing as a use case for AI models. Last month, OpenAI revealed <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/neural\/2021\/01\/10\/heres-how-openais-magical-dall-e-generates-images-from-text-syndication\/\">a new library called DALL-E<\/a> that converts words and phrases into images.
