For the most part, people use it the same as they always have \u2014 a mostly public-facing \u2018microblogging\u2019 platform. But the company today unveiled highlighted multiple upcoming features that could significantly change the way people interact with one another on the platform, in many ways making it more versatile \u2014 and more like some of its competitors.<\/p>\n<p>The announcements came as part of Twitter\u2019s \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/investor.twitterinc.com\/events-and-presentations\/twitter-analyst-day\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Analyst Day<\/a>.\u2019 here are some of the biggest ones.<\/p>\n<h3>Communities<\/h3>\n<p>Communities is essentially the Twitter version of Facebook Groups. It allows Twitter users to hubs where they can gather based on common interests or locations, an extension of the company\u2019s current <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/twitter\/2019\/11\/06\/twitter-makes-it-easy-to-follow-specific-topics-rather-than-users\/\">topics feature<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"post-image post-mediaBleed aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1340588 lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn0.tnwcdn.com\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/1\/files\/2021\/02\/Snag_29bdfda5.png\" alt width=\"977\" height=\"881\" sizes=\"(max-width: 977px) 100vw, 977px\" data-lazy=\"true\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn0.tnwcdn.com\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/1\/files\/2021\/02\/Snag_29bdfda5.png 977w, https:\/\/cdn0.tnwcdn.com\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/1\/files\/2021\/02\/Snag_29bdfda5-233x210.png 233w, https:\/\/cdn0.tnwcdn.com\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/1\/files\/2021\/02\/Snag_29bdfda5-299x270.png 299w, https:\/\/cdn0.tnwcdn.com\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/1\/files\/2021\/02\/Snag_29bdfda5-150x135.png 150w, https:\/\/cdn0.tnwcdn.com\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/1\/files\/2021\/02\/Snag_29bdfda5-796x718.png 796w\"><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>Per Twitter, Communites will make it \u201c<span>easier for people to form, discover, and participate in conversations that are more targeted to the relevant communities or geographies they\u2019re interested in.\u201d Twitter showed off some hypothetical groups around social justice, plants, cats, and surfing.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Super Follows<\/h3>\n<p>A litter Patreon, and a little Twitch, Super Follows allows Twitter users to, well, become \u2018super followers\u2019 of their favorite online accounts. The company also teased some kind of tipping feature for creators, but did not provide much details about how it would work. It did have a $4.99 \/month subscription price in a mockup though.<\/p>\n<p>These new features aside, Twitter also highlighted a couple of upcoming features that have been making the rounds the last few months.<\/p>\n<h3>Revue<\/h3>\n<p>Instead of removing character limits, Revue is a way for Twitter users to publish newsletters for their audiences \u2014 these can be free or be behind a paywall.
