{"id":4791,"date":"2021-04-30T15:24:20","date_gmt":"2021-04-30T15:24:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/editorial.thenextweb.com\/?p=1349191"},"modified":"2021-04-30T15:24:20","modified_gmt":"2021-04-30T15:24:20","slug":"tesla-vp-admits-autopilot-wasnt-fully-disengaged-during-recent-fatal-crash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.londonchiropracter.com\/?p=4791","title":{"rendered":"Tesla VP admits Autopilot wasn\u2019t fully disengaged during recent fatal crash"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img-cdn.tnwcdn.com\/image\/shift?filter_last=1&amp;fit=1280%2C640&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fcdn0.tnwcdn.com%2Fwp-content%2Fblogs.dir%2F1%2Ffiles%2F2021%2F04%2Ftesla-1.png&amp;signature=a7ddc0e2b60611c9d3f247f16b77f7e7\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>Yes, you read correctly.<\/p>\n<p><span>During Tesla\u2019s Q1&nbsp;earnings call on April 17, Lars Moravy, Tesla\u2019s Vice President of Vehicle Engineering, commented on <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/painful-reminder-cars-cant-drive-themselves\">the recent fatal crash in Texas<\/a> and proved that Elon Musk\u2019s claims were, well, lies.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Musk had claimed via Twitter that Autopilot wasn\u2019t enabled, and that it <span>wouldn\u2019t work on a street without lane lines, as was the case.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"13.157190635452\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Your research as a private individual is better than professionals <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WSJ?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">@WSJ<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>Data logs recovered so far show Autopilot was not enabled &amp; this car did not purchase FSD.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, standard Autopilot would require lane lines to turn on, which this street did not have.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Elon Musk (@elonmusk) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1384254194975010826?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">April 19, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fool.com\/earnings\/call-transcripts\/2021\/04\/27\/tesla-tsla-q1-2021-earnings-call-transcript\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">a transcript<\/a> of the earnings call, he blamed again the media for deception and characterized the allegations against Autopilot as \u201ccompletely false.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ironically, Moravy confirmed that at least one of Autopilot\u2019s features \u2013 adaptive cruise control \u2013 was on before the crash occurred.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, he said that \u201c<span>Autosteer (another feature&nbsp;of Autopilot) did not and could not engage on the road condition that\u2026 &lt;pause&gt; as it was designed,\u201d partly supporting Musk\u2019s claims.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Similarly, he added that there was likely someone on the driver\u2019s seat, based on the deformed steering wheel and the unplugged seatbelts post-crash.<\/p>\n<p>Yet again, <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/elon-musk-doubt-tesla-car-crash-killed-two\">these comments bring more questions than answers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><i><span>Do EVs excite your electrons?
