{"id":5593,"date":"2021-06-02T13:40:02","date_gmt":"2021-06-02T13:40:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/TheNextWeb=1355511"},"modified":"2021-06-02T13:40:02","modified_gmt":"2021-06-02T13:40:02","slug":"silicon-powder-could-help-increase-ev-battery-capacity-and-reduce-weight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.londonchiropracter.com\/?p=5593","title":{"rendered":"Silicon powder could help increase EV battery capacity and reduce weight"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A small Dutch company, <a href=\"https:\/\/e-magy.com\/about-e-magy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">E-magy<\/a>, that specializes in designing and manufacturing porous&nbsp;silicon technologies is now working on creating a new silicon-based lithium-ion <span id=\"urn:enhancement-13\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.thenextweb.com\/tnw\/null\/entity\/battery_2\">battery<\/span> that would increase EV range, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trouw.nl\/economie\/stekkerauto-s-die-800-kilometer-kunnen-rijden-met-een-nederlandse-vinding-kan-dat~b9bc82ef\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Trouw<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n<p>As per Casper Peeters, the co-founder of E-magy, silicon-based lithium batteries live longer than their graphite-based alternatives. Silicon batteries have between 40 and 70% more capacity, he explained. This means that large EVs could have an 800km range, and the smaller electric vehicles just under 500km.<\/p>\n<p>On the downside, silicon is more expensive than graphite, but it offers one more significant advantage: silicon batteries can be smaller than conventional batteries.
