But with TikTok\u2019s ballooning growth, the firm is now thinking of moving out of its \u201cphoto-sharing app\u201d silo.<\/p>\n<p>Last night, Instagram\u2018s chief, Adam Mosseri, said in a video that the company is now building features focusing on creators, video, shopping, and messaging.&nbsp;Mosseri added that people now use Instagram \u201cto be entertained.\u201d He also acknowledged the scale of TikTok and YouTube \u2014 and hinted that the company wants to compete with them both.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"12.244372990354\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Changes are coming to video on Instagram \ud83d\udcfa<\/p>\n<p>At Instagram we\u2019re always trying to build new features that help you get the most out of your experience. Now, Instagram seems to be tapping into that phenomena, and giving you some control over your interests as well.<\/p>\n<p>Another \u2018big\u2019 shift for Instagram seems to be video. Now, the company has <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/instagram-deletes-igtv-button-no-one-using\">little success<\/a> with <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/igtv-is-instagrams-answer-to-youtube\">IGTV<\/a>&nbsp;product, which has been around for more than three years. Mosseri said that the company will lean towards \u201cimmersive, full-screen, mobile-first video.\u201d That doesn\u2019t tell me yet how it\u2019s gonna be different from IGTV. Maybe put it on a website like YouTube too?<\/p>\n<p><span>Until now, Instagram has made it easy to consume and discover content that requires a shorter attention span: photos, video clips in the feed, and lately, Reels. The company is yet to elaborate how it plans to change that, and how far it will move away from this current model.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The third part of Instagram\u2019s big plan is creators, and last month, leaker <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/alex193a\/status\/1406995654900125702\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Alessandro Paluzzi<\/a> hinted at something called \u201cExclusive Stories\u201d for fan club members. Last night, the company confirmed to <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2021\/06\/30\/instagram-is-developing-its-own-version-of-twitters-super-follow-with-exclusive-stories\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">TechCrunch<\/a> that it\u2019s working on this subscription-like feature.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"9.6\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Instagram?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">#Instagram<\/a> is working on stories for fan clubs, exclusive stories visible only to fan club members \ud83d\udc40<\/p>\n<p>\u2139\ufe0f It is not possible to take screenshots of exclusive stories. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/GAYvRFVBss\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/GAYvRFVBss<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Alessandro Paluzzi (@alex193a) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/alex193a\/status\/1406995654900125702?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">June 21, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In an interview with The Information in May, Mosseri said that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theinformation.com\/articles\/instagram-s-mosseri-is-exploring-subscriptions-open-to-creator-fund\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">a creator fund is not \u201coff the table.\u201d<\/a> Notably, YouTube, Snapchat, TikTok, and Clubhouse all have a program to pay people to create content.<\/p>\n<p>The firm also wants to concentrate more on messaging and help you chat more with friends and creators. Last year, it started merging <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/facebook-begins-the-instagram-dm-and-messenger-merge\">Instagram DM and Facebook Messenger<\/a>, and the rollout is still underway. What\u2019s next? WhatsApp integration?<\/p>\n<p><span>It\u2019s not really surprising to hear Mosseri stress on the importance of diving deeper into shopping. The company started testing <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2020\/07\/07\/instagram-swaps-out-its-activity-tab-for-shop-in-new-global-test\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">a new shop button<\/a> on the home screen last year, and now it\u2019s putting ads in a ton of things.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In May, a report from&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-05-11\/tiktok-begins-testing-in-app-shopping-to-challenge-facebook\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Bloomberg<\/a><span>&nbsp;suggested that rival TikTok is also is preparing to introduce in-app shopping. According to a report by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/05\/06\/facebook-amazon-make-inroads-into-11-billion-us-livestream-market.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">CNBC<\/a>, the livestreaming shopping market in the US is worth $11 billion.
