Trooper stopped to help a disabled motorist on I-4. When Tesla driving on \u201cauto\u201d mode struck the patrol car. Trooper was outside of car and extremely lucky to have not been struck. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/moveover?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">#moveover<\/a>. First, it hit the left side of the police car, and then it hit the Mercedes.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, there were no fatalities. According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/technology-business-florida-001915f68f2327a42eb5b6f5c4ccd2b7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Associated Press<\/a>, the 27-year-old Tesla driver and the driver of the disabled Mercedes sustained minor injuries, while the police officer remained unhurt.<\/p>\n<p><em><span>[Did you know <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/conference\/shift\"><span>SHIFT is taking the stage this fall<\/span><\/a><span>? The investigation will cover Model <span>Y, X, S, and 3 vehicles released from 2014 through 2021, amounting up to 765,000 units.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also hopeful that, following the investigation, Democratic senators <span>Richard Blumenthal and&nbsp;Ed Markey asked <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/08\/18\/democrats-ask-ftc-to-investigate-teslas-self-driving-claims.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">the Federal Trade Commission to look into Tesla\u2019s claims<\/a> about its Autopilot and Full Self-Driving capabilities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Especially the second initiative is very hopeful, as simply identifying potential software deficiencies isn\u2019t enough. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>What lies at the core of this problem is the misconception that Autopilot can deliver fully autonomous driving. And while Tesla has been recently offering warnings on its software\u2019s limitations, we should nevertheless by wary of the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/autonowashing-dangers-too-much-trust-self-driving-cars-tesla-gm-mercedes\">autonowashing<\/a>\u201d that usually lurks in its marketing strategy.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><i>Do EVs excite your electrons?
