Age is a blessing \u2014 but it\u2019s also fucking terrifying. Especially when I realized it had been 20 years since the iPod was released.<\/em><\/p>\n

Once I stopped hyperventilating, I understood this was okay. Why? Because the iPod changed my life. And, to this very day, I believe it\u2019s the greatest gadget ever created.<\/p>\n

It didn\u2019t begin that way though. Before I got my hands on an iPod, I thought MP3 players were stupid.<\/p>\n

The year is 2005. I\u2019m about 16 and I\u2019ve been building a CD collection<\/a> for several years (one I actually still have, shout out the Marantz CD6007<\/a>).<\/p>\n

I\u2019d given up on portable CD players a few years previously, mainly because they skipped all the time and were too big to carry around \u2014 especially as I did manual labor on the weekends.<\/p>\n

So, around 2001, I saved up to get myself a teeny-weeny Panasonic MP3 player.<\/p>\n
