On the eve of its <span>GitHub Universe conference starting today, the company said that the AI is now helping to write <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/copilot-artificial-intelligence-coding-github-9a202f40-9af7-4786-9dcb-b678683b360f.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">30% of code on the platform<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/axios.com\/copilot-artificial-intelligence-coding-github-9a202f40-9af7-4786-9dcb-b678683b360f.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Axios<\/a>, <span>Oege de Moor, VP of GitHub Next \u2014 the team that works on the copilot function \u2014 said that 50% of devs who\u2019ve tried it have kept using it.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The feature is still in the technical preview phase, and works especially well with languages such as <span>Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Ruby, and Go.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The company is now expanding features to new code editors starting today, so even if you use another environment for development, you can take advantage of GitHub\u2019s AI:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"8.1312741312741\">\n<p>We are expanding editor support to include<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/github\/copilot-docs\/tree\/main\/docs#readme\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Neovim and JetBrains IDEs<\/a>, especially focused on the latest versions of IntelliJ IDEA and PyCharm. Support for multiline completions in Java has also been added, with support for more languages over the coming months.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>GitHub has built this feature using <span>OpenAI Codex, a database built upon public repositories, which is more efficient at <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/microsofts-first-gpt-3-product-hints-commercial-future-openai-syndication\">code generation than GPT-3<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Codata, another tool offering AI-based code completion, said last year that it helped you write 25% less code \u2014 and&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/how-this-ai-powered-auto-completer-is-helping-developers-write-25-less-code\">more than a million developers<\/a><span>&nbsp;were already using it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>However, this AI is not yet as smart to generate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/business-57914432\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">whole programs by themselves<\/a>.
