Whether it\u2019s t-shirts, hats, watches, briefcases, bicycles<\/a>, or even perfume<\/a>, automakers \u2014 especially those at the pricier end of the market \u2014 just love to sell branded goodies. It\u2019s another way to cash in on the brand\u2019s badge value and get free exposure from the suckers<\/del> drivers that actually buy it.<\/p>\n

Never has it been a good idea to buy a piece of high-end car branded merch, and Aston Martin\u2019s foldable phone proves that perfectly.<\/p>\n

Yes, you read that correctly. Aston Martin is selling a foldable phone. Well kind of, it\u2019s actually a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 with a bunch of Aston Martin Racing Edition merchandise in the box and a heftier price tag.<\/p>\n

Under the surface, it\u2019s exactly the same as the standard Samsung device, it comes with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage \u2014 plenty of space for all those hi-res pictures of that Aston Martin DB11 you don\u2019t even own.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s only being sold in China by Tmall<\/a> and will cost 20,999 Yuan (about $3,140). Considering the standard device is 16,999 Yuan (about $2,540), anyone that buys this is paying around $600 more just for a few Aston Martin trinkets in the box.<\/p>\n

Alongside the leather case, there\u2019s also a t-shirt, a hat, and a Samsung Galaxy Watch 3, which is a nice addition but still doesn\u2019t entirely justify the price increase.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is a particularly strange bundle, it\u2019s just a standard Samsung device in a box of with some (possibly) leftover Aston Martin merchandise.<\/span> It\u2019s not clear if this has been put together by Aston Martin or the retailer Tmall.<\/p>\n

It wouldn\u2019t be the first time that a car brand has slapped its name on a phone, though. Luxury car brand Bentley previously put its name on the fairly average Vertu phone<\/a> and then charged $9,000 for it. With that in mind, it makes this Aston Martin bundle seem like the most okay-ish of deals.<\/p>\n

If you do happen to own an Aston Martin, you\u2019ll already know that you don\u2019t need branded merchandise to show off the fact you think you\u2019re James Bond. You have the car, the real deal, for that. If you\u2019re not near your car, aloofly placing the keys on the table in front of you will suffice.<\/p>\n

On the flip side, if you want to trick people into thinking<\/em> you own a posh sports car, there are far cheaper options \u2014 like posting a picture of yourself standing next to one on Instagram like a normal person.<\/p>\n

In reality, no self-respecting Aston owner is going to buy this and neither should you.<\/p>\n
