This week&nbsp;<\/span><em><span class=\"il\">Plugged<\/span><span>&nbsp;<\/span>In<\/em><span>&nbsp;was fed another newsletter (Mad Cow Disease-style) and is feeling\u2026 well,&nbsp;<\/span><em>weird.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span>I\u2019ve spent a lot of time&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=22ec88eb9b9d8bc3bcf660787&amp;id=c90cae8d98&amp;e=c7faf54fbe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/thenextweb.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3D22ec88eb9b9d8bc3bcf660787%26id%3Dc90cae8d98%26e%3Dc7faf54fbe&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1604477120937000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHW-wSg5SuINoTi6NwifiRXlsXYbg\">writing about Apple of late<\/a><span>&nbsp;\u2014 and for good reason: it\u2019s&nbsp;<em>the<\/em> master of&nbsp;consistently churning out perfectly capable products. Just look at something like <a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/plugged\/2020\/10\/28\/why-hasnt-apple-watch-design-changed-expert-analysis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the Apple Watch<\/a>. It\u2019s an amazing device, but it\u2019s made to be steady, rather than jaw-dropping. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>There are no wild new features, or crazy designs. It\u2019s simply another Apple Watch.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>And that\u2019s fine. Being normie is a-okay. It\u2019s\u2026 you know what? Fuck, I can\u2019t do this anymore. It\u2019s over: releasing batshit insane gadgets will always be cooler than playing it safe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>It\u2019s why I\u2019ll always respect&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=22ec88eb9b9d8bc3bcf660787&amp;id=b566758d13&amp;e=c7faf54fbe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/thenextweb.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3D22ec88eb9b9d8bc3bcf660787%26id%3Db566758d13%26e%3Dc7faf54fbe&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1604477120937000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFbVTdWqyTuKQ33JelRwVTjv1RtLg\">Samsung for trying to make foldable phones happen<\/a><span>. On the \u201cbatshit\u201d spectrum they appear closer to the word\u2019s second syllable than first. And this isn\u2019t uncommon. In fact, the opposite. Making something is incredibly hard, let alone an item that stands alone in its particular category.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>But, once in a blue moon, there\u2019s an exception. A&nbsp;company that gets in a groove of releasing ridiculous, off-the-wall, and downright odd products that are somehow actually pretty fucking good?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>And that company, friends, is&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"il\">Nintendo<\/span><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>If Apple is Coldplay, soullessly pumping out a slightly tweaked sound time and time again,&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"il\">Nintendo&nbsp;is Bowie: an experimentalist with a populist edge. Will it sometimes release something that\u2019s utter shit? <em>Of course<\/em>. But at its best will it be untouchable? You betcha. And right now Nintendo is on its early-70s Bowie hot streak.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Since the release of&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=22ec88eb9b9d8bc3bcf660787&amp;id=50736d87d2&amp;e=c7faf54fbe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/thenextweb.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3D22ec88eb9b9d8bc3bcf660787%26id%3D50736d87d2%26e%3Dc7faf54fbe&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1604477120937000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHjgbI9ft8u-ISt-rkbmxoWFIRC7g\">the now-normal-but-once-<wbr>revolutionary Switch<\/a><span>,&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"il\">Nintendo&nbsp;has been pumping out a steady stream of weirdness. Well, that\u2019d be&nbsp;<\/span><em>Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit<\/em><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/X6o6T40w6As\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><br \/><span>That\u2019s right: it\u2019s real life <em>Mario Kart<\/em>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>It comes with a remote control Mario or Luigi vehicle that has a camera on top. Take a breath. Ponder.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>We\u2019re not having a stoned conversation about remote control&nbsp;cars and real life&nbsp;<\/span><em>Mario Kart<\/em>&nbsp;\u2014 you can go and buy this shit <strong>right now<\/strong>. It\u2019s out there. It\u2019s available. And it\u2019s mind-blowing.<\/p>\n<p><span>And what makes the whole thing extra special is \u2014 and lean in close for this:&nbsp;<\/span><em>Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit is great.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span>Does it have issues? Who doesn\u2019t? (Am I right?!?) Yeah, the lack of single console<\/span><span>&nbsp;multiplayer sucks. If you could control two remote control vehicles on one Switch? And race against each other? Christmas would\u2019ve fucked so hard. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>There are other negative parts too: the camera&nbsp;<\/span><span>quality isn\u2019t amazing. There are occasional lag issues. Also, I worry about the longevity&nbsp;of the game compared to regular <em>Mario Kart<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>But, and you can quote me on this, I find it impossible to even begin to care.&nbsp;<\/span><em>Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit<\/em><span>&nbsp;is magic, pure and simple.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>I\u2019m not sure what other companies can take from this apart from, I dunno, try harder?
